Will this be okay?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fatrod, Jun 27, 2009.

  1. Hi All,

I know strictly speaking the brake pedal should be in the middle of the two push rods but I'm real tight on space around the transmission tunnel for the throttle pedal so I came up with this offset solution.

What do you think? Will it be okay? There will be a support at the end of the pedal mounting spindle as well. - Thanks in advance.

might be ok, but if it ever loosens up, it wont.

I would cut the tab off the bottom of the pedal and reweld it on the inside edge of the pedal, then it would be more centered on the push rods.

Look for the red line,, not a photchopper but you get the idea!

    Nice job though clean install!

  3. damn, hate that you had to hack the frame, now its clean up time.
It looks like the leverage would be ok, more support wouldnt hurt to steady and keep tight. as said, maybe relocate the one bracket for even distribution of force maybe, dunno, not an engineer.
nevermind, I see the shaft is tapered for the arm to sit where it does.

Don't cut off the existing tab, instead add a second one.
And consider using safety retaining washers on critical bits like Clutch and brake linkages. There is almost no chance they will fail because all the force is linear, but still. And NHRA requires them if you would ever race.

Retaining washers (these guys ship quick and seem like good people):

Looks like you've got a lathe and could turn your own but you can hardly make them for what they charge.

He could use flat washers, the ones you show are for steering and other things that need the extra twist such as steering etc.

and it doesnt matter how you move the tab, just need to make sure its centered on the pushrods

Id try something like this. If that bolt comes loose or things wear it'll move around and youll have uneven stroke and unpredictable brakes.
