I think some55s also had them aswell as 56 airport limos etc. You know, heavy duty parts. :) They were used on Black Widows and other competition cars.

I flipped when I saw this picture in TRJ's story on the Crate. Setting the Orange Crate aside, how'd you like to stroll through that lot and pick out a car or two? Those old houses are cool too.

The most interesting thing about this photo is the NEW Red Corvette Coupe . It's a 1963 Split Window . Bob got a hold of one before they were released or shown & available to the public , dealers were really upset and I was told Bob got a visit from GM and some of their hired guns .........Z.

  9. I'd forgotten about Tindle's... Bob always had bitchn' cars for sale.

I bought my girlfriend a low mile 67 Camaro SS350 4sp from him for $2500 in the early 70's after he moved to the west side.

Stay tuned for................ The Rest of the Story

This car has more history than just Tindle. It was originally built in the Portland area and ran a flatmotor. I believe his name was Tom Cahill or something close to that. He used to flat tow it to the drags in Eugene and Scappose and was rear ended one day and it stuffed the 32 into the tow vehicle. Albert Drake, yes the one that writes for Goodguy's and has several published books out, then bought the car from Tom and it sat in Albert's sisters back yard when Tindle came along and bought it and turned it into the Orange Crate. I think Albert still has a few goodies stashed from the original flatty in the car.

In 91 or so, I took Albert to Ted's shop and we did a photo shoot of the car but Albert never did anything with them that I'm aware of but he did make comment that the front wheels and the windshield were still with the car as some folks in the Portland area had gossiped that they owned those items but yet the car sat intact with nothing missing and finally, Ted got it restored and the rest is history.

Oh, and while Tom Cahill had the car it was featured in one of the "little paged" magazines and was either white or light yellow.

  16. That Turnpike windshield is worth a fortune in decent shape.
I parted out a bad rusty '58 a couple years ago and did very well.
It had the accessory flat-top steering wheel which I'm embarrassed to say how much it sold for.

I still have the rear windshield glass if somebody needs one.

Yea, they have an electric rear window called the "Breezeway". Mercury started using the Breezeway window again in the '64 Montclair.
