  1. Class of 71. Drove a 66 Mustang I got from my grandmother in 69. She bought it new at Costner & Eagleton Ford in Alcoa, Tenn, and gave it to me when she bought a new Torino.(what was she thinkin?) I still have it sitting around here somewhere. Picture is at the Car Craft Nats in Indy 1977.

    I just graduated.

    Drove to school 2008-2009

First was the '86 Nissan 4x4. It was a gift. It ran, drove, and the body was alright. Swapped grills, done some detailing, tore it up, fixed it, drove it.

While the Nissan was blown up, I traded my '79 Plymouth Volare (Slant six, two door, fresh purple paint, saved from being crushed for its akwardness) for a 2wd '91 S-10. Four cylinder 5-Speed. Its only options were a sun roof and sliding back glass (Ventilation!) Lowered 4 inches, dog dished steelies, new Butternut paint, and the body was composed of rust free parts and pieces from several trucks. The extremly low gearing made for quite a bit of power in the little truck, I pegged the 85mph speedometer daily for several weeks. Its lack of power assist and low stance made it the best handling vehicle I've ever driven. Old people and kids were especially fond of it, some hated it and were always willing to tell me they'd put directional rims on it, bucket seats, and paint it this and this color because it was piss yellow.

I dropped the insurance on the S-10 in time for prom to drive my '80 El Camino I'd owned since age 10. 350/350. Very mild, and a 10 footer. In a parking lot filled with Econo-boxes, various trucks, and 4 fairly stock late model camaros and mustangs it was a pleasant sight. The 9-year old paint job is showing its age. Got duals as a graduation gift. Used it as a daily until it started leaking oil recently and gas shot up.

None of my hot rods were done in time, my '54 F-100 would've been had it not been for chasing brake gremlins, but I now have some time to get things done the way I want them.

I'm currently begining to put my girlfriend's '66 C-10 together so she can actually have a vehicle to drive in a couple of months. She wants no power assist, no a/c, no heater, and a V8 with glass packs. It makes a man happy.

  12. What was my High school ride?

Well in New Zealand it would be a rarity for high school kids to have anything more than a bicycle.

The best I had was a pair of sandshoes...

    Class of 1970.

My 1st car was a 1955 Dodge Royal Lancer Custom, Super Red Ram HEMI, 2 Speed PowerFlite, Black/Rose/White 4 door.

After that was shortened due to an accident I had a 1967 Dodge Dart GT, HP 273, 4 speed.

    Miss 'em both!!!

Do I need to list them all? Did they need to run?

    Graduated in '76
Like others I bought and sold a bunch of cars for $50-$400 - never spent more than that. Never had more than that...often only owned them for a few weeks before the next one came along.. Most were not particularly cool.

    1968 Torino(s) GT390 4 speed - actually had a couple of those, both ran
1947 Ford coupe - 327/'glide - only drove in backyard, ran out of $$$
1967 Impala SS convert - actually pulled engine for the above '46 ( ! )
    1665 Fairlane 289
    1964 Comet 6
    1962 Studebaker lark
    1966 Falcon 6
...and perhaps a dozen more that I am not remembering right now....

Current cars include a 1969 Torino big block and a 1946 Ford coupe.
Wonder why that happens :) ?

Mine was a 1972 Buick GS. I got it before I could legally drive, so when my brothers truck broke down, he used it. It was played out by the time I got to it. It had cancer....BAD. Sold it to a guy that was gonna "fix it up". I saw it a year ago and it looked worse.

Here's two of my four rides during HS years 1971-73 in Carmichael, Calif. The 57 delivery had a 265 3spd and the ex-US Army 53 Chevy pickup had a 6 from a 57 Chevy and a 4spd.

First ride was a 53 Pontiac, flathead straight 8. This was in 1972. I even picked up an Edmunds Custom dual stromberg intake for it. (But never got it on).
Took the car apart to rebuild it and started driving a 64 T-Bird.
Then picked up a 66 Coronet 500 Convertible, 383 4-speed and got it together in time to do a burnout in front of the high school graduation day............1974!

My other ride. Well it was 1968! It took me three months,12 to 14 hours a day to paint this thru the summer to get it going and a 265 V8. So i could drive it my senior year. It was a police magnet. John ......[IMG]

My first car was a 1955 Ford Mainliner Police Special, 312 Y block, three on the tree w/manual overdrive, Cragar SS wheels.
Then a year later I bought a 1966 Chevelle Convertible for $275.00, Then "kick" "kick" I sold it later for $200 and I left an Offenhauser Six pack intake manifold with all six carbs and linkage and "kick" "kick" a pair of Mickey Thompson slicks in the trunk.
Oh, that kicking sound is me kicking myself in the butt.

  30. A white 64 Chevy Impala. Damn I wish I had a pic of it. Sold it for a 70 Duster with a 4 speed / 340ci.
    Crazy, huh?
