THANKS! Looks like two more Two Man cars that I didn't know still exist. Number 4 Russ Snowberger Hupmobile finished 5th in 1932 and the orange Gene Haustein Hudson finished 15th in 1933.

I have a few more. I think the total number of vintage cars was maybe 35 to 40.
Sadly, I don't think they ever did a track-drive as a group while I was there, as they have in the past. One of my best memories was from a few years ago (I think '05) when they had all the vintage cars run maybe 8 or 10 laps together and I got to hear Bob Sutherland's beautifuly restored Novi run. There were no Novi's in the vintage group this year. ;o(

Real or a new clone, I really don't care this Model T Ford FWD car is a piece of work! Does anyone have more info on it? They were an early 1930's Midget setup.

At the very end of the day they ran the vintage cars for 5 laps & there were lots of pictures taken both amature & professinal . My first year at the Speedway was 1952 & to get to see some of the cars from that era really took me back to those wonderful May 30th mornings when we would journey to the speedway from Ohio to see the 500. Yes I was there for the 500 this year & although its much different today & surrounded in much controversy its still a great spectical.

I was at Norton when you were wringing out the Nance. You definitely had its 'nads pinned to the floor. Don't know who builds you motors, but you sure have a good piece. You and it must like that track. You making the pull to Oberlin this weekend?

Yes, we will be at Oberlin this weekend! Really looking forward to it. To answer your question, I build my own engines. Really nothing to it. I have a good machinest and you can get SBC stuff just about anywhere. That particular engine is a .030 over 350 with 461 (double hump) heads, 11:1 pistons, and a steel crank. Plenty for what we do! (and pretty much what we ran in "the day")

I think that "74" car is beautiful and very close to the type of replica car I am trying to create. Do you have any more information on it please? I love the nose, the tail, the exposed frame, and the clean lines.

 

Pics from Pikes Peak International Raceway (PPIR).

Last Saturday we (CVOR) got to run the vintage cars during the car show at PPIR. The Richard Petty Driving Experience guys had the big track, so we got to use the infield 1/4 mi. Really a pretty nice set-up. Pretty flat, but with plenty of run-off in case you mess up. We got plenty of track time, and I think everyone had a good time. Skip Roberts brought out the roadster and made some shake-down laps. Would have loved to have seen it out on the "big" track. Maybe someday!
