I am running '63 361 B block Mopar w/ '58 350 (Dosoto & Chrysler) heads. Anyone ever use rocker shaft shims (roller style) on stamped steel rocker arm setup? The #1 cylinder rocker assembly is making a clapping noise.I took the valve cover off & there seems to be more side to side rocker play than I am used to. I do have exhaust & intake rockers in the correct location w/ spacers install. Lifters are fine. Everything is tight. Rocker arms are not hitting the valve covers. End peds has about .002 wear on the side. I will most like try the shims out later today.

I've never heard of a 350 Desoto. And yes you can rebush the rockers or have the rocker shaft rechromed. I guess you are talking about the 341.

    Fixed it!
Heads are Casting #1737635 - valves are now 2.08" 1.60"

  4. It's no wonder, used in '58 only, and only in the Firesweep, 350/2bbl 280 h.p.
Looks like '58 was a year of change. where as the previous 330, 341, and also the 325 all shared the 3.8" stroke, the new for '58 350, 361, and (starting in '59) 383 all shared a 3.375" stroke.

Learn something every day! I should have known when you stated stamped rockers. I'm living in a hemi world.

  6. The 350 was not a hemi...just in case someone gets confused...it was a wedge head "B" big block, cousin to the 361 that came right after it. As stated it was a one year motor and was available in dodge, plymouth and desotos in certain models only.

  7. The early ('58 - '59) 383 was an "RB" Mopar big block engine (like a 413 or 426W), and was not the same as the 361 and 350, which were "B" engines.

It was a bad rocker. Not sure how I missed it when I was putting things together.

  10. Just to clear up any confusion ( easy to do after 50 years ) The RB 383 was only produced one year (1959) and it was only available in the Windsor and Saratoga models.

The RB 383 was two years. They made almost 100,000 of them.

Chrysler made alot of changes for the 62 model year so the 69 might be a direct replacement or it might not, all depending on the crankshaft in the dead 361. If your car is an early 62 (June-July-August 1961) then you could have the early crank.
Remove the trans inspection cover and see if there is a flexplate. If so, then start swapping. If not, find a late 62 trans.
