I picked up a swamp cooler today and was wondering if someone knows who makes this and what year it was made. There are no tags or writing on it anywhere. The rope is still attached and when you pull the cord it moves a part inside.

    Thanks!
    Scott

Looks like a Thermador, could be a Sears, Mobil also made one like that. I see yours has the hooks for going over the window, but it looks like you're missing the braces that go down to the window channel.

  3. Why is it on a Johnny Lightning car?

Viewing you pics I think it is slightly large for the application.

Yes..thats what ya do. There is a hole in the top about 1 inch in diameter... and you slide the cover over teh hole and add water.

Window was already cracked. I put about 50 miles on it today and no problems.

What you got there is an allstate cooler if you notice the water slide is in the rear and the thermador is in the front of the cooler

FC. That one looks nicely restored. I have one like it and would like to paint it but don't want to lose the Thermador decal. Is yours a repop decal and if so, where do you get them?

    Cheers

    Pete

PS. I don't have the braces either. Didn't know they had braces...pics?

40s 50s Sears Allstate Swamp Cooler Nice Price: $400 shipped
Here's a 1940's -1950's Sears Allstate Swamp/car Cooler. These Car Coolers have become very hard to find in this outstanding condition. Nice condition. This cooler may have been Never Used based on its condition. Found after decades of dry storage. SOLID METAL AS FROM DAY ONE. VERY STRAIGHT. Just some very light nicks and scratches to paint. All rust spots have been neutralized and it is ready to use. Just Mount, Add water, and Drive.........

Mounting Brackets are attached. NO BRACE NEEDED ON THIS MODEL

THE STRING WORKS TO PULL THE DRUM AND RETRACTS FINE.
NO BRACE NEEDED ON THIS MODEL......
YOU CAN OPEN THE WINDOW WITH IT ATTACHED.

Link to the ad with some more pics.......http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=662587

Evidently this one does not require the brace.....but others do have one
    to give support.
