My parents gave me a thousand dollars because I hadn't smoked (cigaretts anyway) as a teenager (and still don't). Bought a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Hurst Edition. She had a Hurst four speed with a 305 (dog), posi rear, and Hurst T-tops. The body was rusted out but I had the windows tinted limousine black as well as plain black rims. My boss called it black beauty. I traded it even up for a 69 firebird and came out way ahead on the deal (Thanks Pat Coglin!). The 69 took up all of my free time and caused me to pick up my first Street Rodder Magazine! Fast forward to now and I have had several cars older than my grandmother!

    1962 Chevy Nova, 327 Chevy with an 2 4bl crossram, M22.

    1963 Comet, 289 C4

    1968 Camaro Convert SS396, 4 speed

    1967 Lincoln Continetal,

I wish I'd never sold the Nova or the Camaro.

The Camaro was bought to resell with a bad motor, did a quicky rebuild and doubled what was in it,

The Nova was sold to a buddy with the promise that if it was ever sold, I'd get a chance to buy it back, I needed the money to turn the Camaro, Unfortunatly he wrecked it a month later.

The Lincoln was a great dating car, and turned a lot of heads in 1972.

$50.00 fifty-five Chevy. Funny how times change. In 1969, it was considered an "old car".

Back in 73 to 75, we still owned the same family body shop. My dad was a gear head then to. So in 73 it was a 69 Dickie Harrell Nova with 427 & 4-speed. IN 74 it was a 69 T-top Vette, also a 427. In 75 it was 75 Chevy "GOODTIMES" van, complete with White fur and green shag carpet! YEEAAHH BABY!!!!!!!!! I wound up living out of it for a couple years after graduation. Sold it for cash and a 4-door Volvo. Needed to by a place to live. Volvo had heated seats though

'51 Ford Crestliner. Red and white. 3 speed, overdrive. Lowering blocks, skirts, duals. A buddy and I dated girls in a town fifty miles away. Only one town in between. One o'clock every Sunday morning we drove that fifty miles back with the pedal off the floor only when we passed through town #2. (That was before cops used radar, so if you didn't see lights it was a go!) The speedometer pointed to about five past one hundred, but with the error in them, she was probably doing ninety-five. Ah, the good old days. Idiots! Were it not for the angels, we would have been dead a dozen times over. :)

MY high school ride is my 34 ford tudor,i bought it when i was 13 learned how to do bosywork and weld on it,my father had a shop in upstate new york,i drove it everyday until late fall,no heater(blanket, gloves etc.)no interior, hood, fenders, primer,i left the bullet holes in the passenger door, back then they where beaters not rat rods,,my high school senior photo has me and my car in it,i grew up in a farm town,a row of farm trucks and in the middle a chopped hot rod,i graduated in 1994 and still have the car today in the same condition,i drove that car for 3 years to every rod run in the northeast putting close to 6000 miles on it,,,,then,,i pro streeted it,roll cage,406 chevy stroker, roller cam,powerglide,4000 stall,4;11 gears ,took a perfect hot rod and made it into a worthless overheating in traffic, miserable driving race car on the street, after about a year of that,i pulled the engine/trans and parts for another project and put the car into storage for 10 years in my grandfathers garage in conn.,moving to florida, marriage, kids, house etc. came along,a couple years back my grandfather surprised me by bringing the car to me on a open trailer,he used his 37 chevy 4 door to tow it down!,talk about a cool site to see,,so it sits in the corner on the back burner,i did have one of my big money customers spot it and offer me a stupid high price to buy it,without hesitation i told him he did not have enuff money to buy her,,,,,

I had several, a 66, a 69, a 72, and an 84 Chevy pickup, the best one was the '72, I dumped all the money I could into it, ended up with a fairly healthy running 350, wish I still had it, not that it was all that rare, just cool enough with enough memories

when I started driving my 72 torino to school, everything changed. All the girls that never even looked at me suddenly wanted to talk, hangout and go for rides in my "cool old car" I learned the true meaning of "being used" these girls didd'nt like me, they just liked my car.........It was the greatest two years of my life :D

'72 Vega GT, 327 / 4-speed, burnt orange with black SS stripes, stock (clean) black interior. Ansen slot mags with bigs and littles. The swap was done by the previous owner using as Motion Industries swap kit, clean install but the headers would drag the ground a lot. Looked kinda like a shrunken down '70 Camaro, LOL. Pretty stout car for a high school kid.

Had to sell it fall '83 after getting into some moderately serious trouble street racing, gotta hate it when that happens.

Sold it to a guy who lived fairly close to what was then Southeastern Dragway in Dallas GA. Last time I went through there I was gonna stop and see if he still had the car but the house was gone and there was a subdivision in it's place. :(

I wouldn't dare drive any of my "cool" cars to where I went to high school in fear of vandalism but I did own a 63' vw beetle, a 67' beetle and a 48' ford tudor while still in high school.
