6 all the way. those 250's are bullet proof.

  2. Well as of know according to the poll I'm only 21% meathead, So I'm going to go for it. I will put the TH350 behind it. Hopefully I can get it to fit with out having to move the radiator forward. Thanks again, Todd

I hopped up a 250 in my 68 Chevelle to be different. With the extra power plus the 'glide, it was a dog. On the advice of Tom Langdon in Michigan, I flipped out the 'glide for a 200-4R. Huge difference...more get-up...lower revs on the highway...lots of fun. Yes they make a boat load of cool stuff (check out Stovebolt Six on gooogle). On the down side...I've been trying to sell this car for 18 months now and no one will touch it. ($14,000.00 for a fully restored, straight butternut yellow with original black bench interior...not even a low ball offer!) I can only assume its because of the six-so now I'm putting in a belly-button 350. Too bad too. That six took me on a round trip from Southern Ontario to Nova Scotia (3500 miles) with no problems. The "second glances" when the hood is up are priceless for a "muscle car".

i cant believe all the guys on here that say the six 216,235,250, doesnt matter. its like sleeping with your sister you can do it but you dont want your buddies to know it. iam 61 y o we have been throwing 6s away forv-8 foever. anyone who says they run better and sound better than a v-8 has obviously never drove agood sbc or bbc or they wouldnt make such statemrnt

Go with the six, sure you can find a guy with a beat 91 camaro and a mullet to take it off your hands.

If it were a 235 I'd say DOIT, but a late model six? Eh, not so much.

Also there is alot of little tricks you can do to the head. I had a 250 in a chevy truck, wanted a little more power. Sent the head to a machine shop, milled it, bigger valves, springs, and a 270 cam. You would not believe the difference it made. Man that truck was fun to drive.

I would go the path less traveled and run a six.

i say do it. i am sorta. i'm not familar with the bow ties as much but the sbc is just boring. it been done to death. there are plenty of 6's around but not so many in rod's. to all the sbc fans downing a six. as for the ford's i own both. right now both are bone stock the 302 v8 in my driver is direct port injected with a c-6 and 3.56 in a 8.8 rear. i runs nice has decent power and pulls smooth out to 8k. the 300 I6 is stock 1bl carter on log intake and log exhaust. 4 speed manual and 4.10 rear in a 8.8 it will throw you back in the seat and pull hard to 6k. there is no comparison. in power as far as seat of the pants fun. a v8 will have more topend than a 6 but other that a extream build, a v8 will never match a 6 for torgue. pound for pound, cube for cube a six is better. and is almost industructable! do it you wont regret it. IMHO
