Remember those old aluminum spring contraptions on the public playgrounds, that are now gone 'cause we used to launch ourselves to the moon? A customer brought me one, to repair/restore, with a bit extra. His kid is getting it tomorrrow. Hope he appreciates it!!
that's pretty cool,,, they still have them in my hometown park and the park my grandparents used to take me to when i'd visit,,,, i think most places took them out cuz people are MORONS nowadays,,, xoxox miss hootch
I still see a few parks around here with them. Also seen a few at swap meets. I broke the spring out of the base on one when I was a kid, and smacked the back of my head pretty good. My parents just said "next time don't rock so damn hard". To bad parents today would sue anybody and everybody they could if little johnny fell off and got a boo boo
That's a nice piece, with a great retro look. Good job on the restoration. That would just look cool as yard art.
We have a set of the 4 all connected in our park. Last year they were talking about replacing them and I said that if they did, I wanted to be able to bid on them. Things are tight and they are keeping them for now. Really nice job on that one.
This one actually came with the mounts that had it on the swings. I restored that as well, but the owner does not have a tree big enough to make it work. I like the idea of yard art, or in my case, shop art!! I'm going to keep an eye out for one. Brings back alot of cool old memories. Sometimes, its refreshing to get out of the car work, and dig into something off beat!!
HEY I have 4 of those same rockets on a merry-go-round in my backyard...to cool ..my kids have kinda out grown it now... the wife wishes I'd get rid of it.
There are a few old motels around here with the playgrounds still up front that have the spring ones. I've got one of the swing type that I need to fix up one day.
seriousely!!! what ever happened to darwinism in action?! those toys were just another tool to weed the dumb kids out of the herd. it wasn't playtime, it was a culling!!!
i would love to find one of those. great job on the rework. i fixed this one up for my grand daughter a few months back. i believe all us kids love them.
My brother, Ill call him Darwin, "got in the way" of one of those when were were kids. I was pulling it back as far as I could and letting it go...hit him in the face. That was the first of many sets of stitches he acquired growing up.
