Im getting my exaust done on my 48 truck. I installed some fenton headers and throwing on some 1 3/4 pipe. What size of pencil tip would look good on it? I asked for a 1 3/4 but heard the 1 1/2 looks better.

Everybody will have a different opinion but I'd go for 1 3/4". 1 1/2"would look way too small for a truck. IMHO

Tommy, you are 100% correct. 1 1/2 IS to small. I think 1 3/4 is too , but its better than the pea shooter 1 1/2.

Cool thanks. I figured 1 1/2 would be a bit tight but i figured since im going with 1 3/4 pipes i might aswell keep it straight all the way to the end.

The wifes 54 is running 2.5" pipe with pencil tips. It seems like the rolled in tips make the pipe look like a smaller diameter then what it actually is.

Smaller size tips will give a sharper, brighter pulse or pop sound at the end of the pipes when the gas exits to the atmosphere.
Some like to go down to 1" tips to promote a loud sharp high pitched tone.
Others use much larger diameter 'echo cans' for a deeper, bigger tone.

Drive first without any tips for a while and then stay with the same size tips, go larger or smaller to tune that part of the sound.
The tips will not change the basic resonant sound of your 1-3/4 pipes or mufflers.
Tips won't alter performance much with longer pipes and mostly affect the sound (pitch) of the exiting gases.

So i got it back. Sounds really good but someone told me that i can blow something in the motor running it straight pipe with no mufflers. I can see how this can happen with back pressure but will it happen with 1 3/4 straight pipes?
