Go to some other county .. some little county .. like Highlands .. somewhere away from Orlando .. Those folks in those little counties will work with you .. I did all of mine here in Gadsden Co. If I'd have tried to do it in Leon it would have been a friggin' nightmare ..I did have a title but all the names were screwed up .. The tax collector just said "put this here, move that over there, have him sign here" .. done deal .. They can make it work if they want to.
Down here in Sarasota county, the best way to do what you need to do is to find a small DMV office,(I use the one in Palmetto) and ask them to walk you thru a "hot rod" title, A hand written bill of sale for the body and a tracing of the frame numbers (the build date ones I stamped on the tube frame) as well as a signed affidavit that I built the car and had all reciepts for the parts, put my A bone on the road. An FHP officer, hangin' out in the parking lot, did the required inspection for me, no sweat. The car was'nt driveable, but all the major components were there so any numbers could be checked. (he only looked at the frame number and the engine serial #, didn't even ask about the lights, brakes or steering) I took it to the DMV office on a trailer, that seemed to get me a lot of "good guy" points with the crabby old gal I started with... Florida just passed some pretty strict laws regarding the purchase or sale of cars without titles. Basically it has been made a crime to do either. So, now when you go to register ANY car, old or not, without a title in hand they treat you like a crook. There is a process whereby you can apply for a title without a registration and the link to the form has been provided above and here. Follow the process as outlined in Florida law. http://www.flhsmv.gov/DMV/forms/BTR/Milpak/82040.pdf The MAIN thing to remember about dealing with the DMV is that MANY times they have no idea WHAT they are talking about! My daughter got her DL when she was 15 by following the laws of the state and getting all of her paperwork together. When we went to the DMV they told her she could NOT get her license since she was only 15. She pulled out the laws, showed where she had all of the required paperwork and had met every single condition. They conceded, had to call 5 different people and had to have the main office show them how to issue the license. When the machine printed it out, EVERYONE that worked at the DMV watched it spit out of the machine because it was a special license and they all had never seen one before. Main advice: DO NOT "ask" them what you need to do, TELL them what you are doing. Show them the laws, show them the forms all prefilled out as required, and MAKE them follow their own damn laws. That's the only way you get something done there.
In Georgia, the registration takes the place of the title for older cars. If you don't have a registration slip, you have to have a law enforecement person come out and verify the vin# and you must know where it is so that you can point to it. If there are no warrants for the car, you can get a new registration, but must have insurance even if the car isn't running. If you know someone in FLorida that has an impound yard, have them apply for a title as an abandoned vehicles, then sell you back the car after they recieve a title in Florida. By the way, don't press your luck with HOA's as they usually have a homeowner that is a lawyer. When you bought your house, it was stated in the paperwork that you will abide by the rules, and regulations, of the HOA. Last piece of advice, whenever someone on here says, "fuck them", they are not the best source for legal advice.
When I was 15 I was outright accused of being a car thief by the lady behind the counter. America is great, unless you have a car with no up to date tittle, then you are a thief.
That is absolutely the truth, I've found that most DMV workers have a huge power complex. They know what you can do to get it taken care of easy, they choose to make it a headache for you just because they can or because they don't want to have to fill out the paperwork. Go to a small out of town DMV as was suggested, they might be more willing to help you out.
I'm not reaaly sure what to tell you. In Alabama cars were sold with a bill of sale until 1975. I heard that it was 1985 in georgia but I'm not sure. The owner wouldn't had a title for the car because it did not exist. To get a car regestered here all you have to have is liability insurance and they will sell you a tag. Do you know when florida started issueing titles

Maybe its already been said, didn't read the whole thread..get the VIN off the car, send it and 130.00 to International Title service..get thier paperwork and go do an out-of-state title transfer and you will have yer title to show to HOA assholes!...works for me
i just went through this. i needed a bill of sale, and a vin verification form. we had a notary come to the house and do the vin verification and notarize the bill of sale. easy and fast. hope this helps. by the way. this vehicle was from alabama to florida....
Personally, I live in a nice neighborhood. We have an HOA. I'm all for it. I pay my annual dues. I'm a hot rod guy. Do I want to look at your most recent "junk yard find" as I drive down my street? No. If you put it under your carport, in your garage, in your backyard, or somewhat out of sight, I don't really care. Put it in the front of your driveway or on the street, then, yes, I have a problem and will confront you about it personally. The fact that the HOA can confront you and do it anonomously kind of bothers me though. Hope it all works out for you. Mark
they can do more. they just try to do as little as possible. i had a problem with a trailer registration here in Jacksonville. i went to the tax collector 3 times each time i got a different story.so i went to a small town about 30 min away walked in and in about 5 minutes was on my way with a new tag and registration.and they never asked for anything the other offices wanted.
There never was a title for your vehicle. Georgia did not start issuing titles until 1962 model year, and they did not go back and title vehicles prior to '62. All that ever existed for that car was a bill of sale.
As others have said, even when the car was purchased brand new from the dealership, it wasn't issued a title--it was sent out the door with a Bill of Sale. I've heard this was the case up into the 1960s, but I've heard several different years. I've heard of it being a problem for someone selling a '65 Mustang out of state. Currently in Georgia, you don't need to have a title for any vehicle 20 years old or older. When I brought my '62 Suburban into the state, I needed a bill of sale (not even notorized), I needed the police to run the VIN number to ensure the vehicle wasn't on the stolen list (and get the piece of paper they give you stating it's not hot), and I needed to provide proof of insurance because I was driving it. When I provided those three things, they issued me a tag and registration. I asked what the process was for vehicles going out of state, and was told they need to have their state contact Georgia, and Georgia will provide the documentation needed to the other state. Call someone with the Georgia DMV, have them send you the forms and get the paperwork rolling, and most importantly get the form that says Georgia never issued a title for that vehicle when it was new. Then take that into court and present it to the judge to let him know what the deal is. I don't see a reason to hire a lawyer. If things go south at that point, THEN I'd spend the cash on a mouth piece. But until then, it's a pretty easy explanation, so long as you have all the Georgia forms in-hand... and a phone number for the idiot on the other side of the isle to call. There's absolutely no reason to go through any other states, apply for lost titles, or deal with companies that "wash" titles through other states. That's opening a can of worms and opening you up to exposure that could lead to problems later. Go thru Georgia--legal, fairly easy, and they're used to dealing with exactly this situation. -Brad

I seem to remember a thread about something similar awhile back where a guy registered his parts cars and project cars as "home made boats" and registered them for next to nothing. Something about the process wouldn't allow the cops or HOAs to mess with them because they were legally registered boats regardless of whether or not they'd even float. I'm not advocating this process, but I'd damned sure be into it if I had to where I live! Luckily, my ass is moving to the country where I have 19 acres now! WOOHOO!!!

The people I spoke to here in Orlando had no clue that the car was never given a title, as thats where all the problems were stemming from. As for the HOA... I understand homeowners not wanting a project car sitting out in the driveway. Thats completley understandable. If your neighbors keep finding reasons they have to look down thier noses at you, do what I did, politely inform them that they need not worry about your habits anymore, as you are soon going to be renting your house out to the local chapter of the hells angels for thier new death metal studio. Weekly practice will be at 3 a.m. sharp nightly. They will suddenly find a strange and newfound love for you and your junkheap (or was it recently made into a show car?) right then and there, shocking I know.

Did you get your title? You must have gotten the wrong person at the DMV. They should be able to give you all the needed paperwork and do the search. If no one reponds to their inquiry or objects they issue you the title.
to register my 59 ford with no title but a bill of sale what i had to do was get a form from the dmv have a notary public( or police officer) verify the vin and then go apply for the plates normally
I bought my 52 here in florida and they wouldnt let me put into my name without a bill of sale from previous owner. Good thing i kept her number because it was a year later. As for the the hoa, they can go to hell. I just bought my house and thats one thing i made sure i didnt have to worry about. No one is going to tell me what i can and cant do in my yard unless their going to pay my house payments for me. The house we where renting had a hoa and they left me alone. But my wifes friend moved in and the hoa is bitching all the time at her because traffic has picked up since they moved in because of all her friends. Its a dead end sandy road that they maintain.
ga,is a non title state for cars over a certain age,20+-years.have the person you bought the car from go and get a regestration slip from ga. court house and send it to you w/ a bill of sale then get form from fl. tag office to verify the vin and bill of sale match,then go down and get a title, i have done it about 10 times w/cars from ga., and ala. very easy,
