I had time to post these up today. Photos of Austin Raceway Park before they closed it in the 60s. Given to my by Bruce Fullerton ARP offical back then thats his 69 Z28 in the photos.
There is a pic of him on this link as well........ http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=182742
Wait, you're telling me I recently lived a stones throw from this place?! And here I always thought that looked like a good place for a strip while driving by on the highway... Kinda sad knowing that its having houses or apartments built on it right now... Thanks for the photos!
Thanks! No thats the Oakhill track that was set up for the South Austin boys to play before ARP was built. ARP is and almost gone located at the last light before the toll rod intersection on mopac 1/4 mile before entering Round Rock plaza. It was there for years after it closed and many guys would jump into the place and race all night until late 80s. Sure wish it was relocated somewhere else. half of it is building now.
I raced there once in the spring of 1969. I ran G stock with a Gray 69 Cutlass S that I ran at Little River several times. I heard several stories about Hands when I lived in Texas. Especially the ones about his "personal" micrometers.
That guy is the coolest Austin Hot Rodder ever. Complete legend...... I love asking older guys about him and seeing their eyes light up.
