Crazy blower setup last night at a Cruise. Possible HAMBer?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Moloko, Apr 19, 2009.

  1. That's one of the few/maybe only Latham pictures I've got of a Latham with side outputs dumping into a manifold. My literature has info about the Latham Hemi mounts but no photos.
Looking at the detail of the size of the blower case, i counted 12 large rings which would imply it's probably a Model 14A or 16A (12 between the end housings) & 1 or 2 inside the housings. I'd really like to know the model # and the serial #.

The rear output Phelum on the sides make it unique because that's the first i've ever seen in 20+ years, with the back plate rotated 90 degrees and a second output port cut for the other side.

I downloaded the picture to my collection of latham registry info & will PM (HOT40ROD) you for additional info about the owner.

Any more pictures of latham superchargers are needed.

By the way Ol Blue sent me some pic's of this car at the RR rumble as well, but not as much detail of the back of the supercharger.

    Thanks for the detail!

Movin/on how about posting some of the photos you have or start a new thread just on Latham superchargers I for one always thought they were cool but it's hard to find info on them.

yeah I say it a Latham. Here is the same setup in a 64 Galaxie that also has a "Turbo" axle it's owned by

Zachary Reynolds of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco fame and is referred to as the "Tobacco King". The Turbo Drag Axle hanging off the rear end offers 850 additional horsepower in this application and the car has been souped up to handle the juice with chassis and suspension stiffening.

I like the looks of those old Lathem Blowers, used to come in the AMT T coupe kit on a Lincoln V8.

I could do without the cowl mounted oil filter but not sure where else you would put it. lol

39 Ford, can you get a pic of the flathead with the latham? I've never seen one on a flatty.

I I remember right, that reynolds car was sold at auction last year. Zachary Reynolds was killed in a Plane Crash i think, many years ago.

I think Norm Latham was from Palm Beach. He had a 59 Pontiac with one of those setups on it, used to see it at car shows in Miami in the late 50s, early 60s. Probably worked good in its day. Its different and I like it. If those are correct 54 Corvette carbs they might be more then the whole car to a restorer. Would love to see the flathead with that on top.

  23. Django: here are 2 pictures of Lathams on Flatheads and another of the subject Dodge. (the finned, light blue, Flathead photo is from a prior HAMB thread).

By the way (warpspeed & zzford How do you know they did not perform well????) my test result literature shows a 4 carb version flowing 687 CFM with 15 PSI boost (spinning at 33,000 rpm) 6000rpm engine speed. The 6 carb version checked out at just under 1000 CFM.

Tests also showed in 1962 they bumped the stock 327 chevy's by over 100 HP with nothing changed but the supercharger and intake manifold which was an early vette FI base.

Thanx. My memory of that kit was foggy. I could only remember AMT, Lincoln mill and Ferd model T when I saw this thread yesterday.

I love it. Only wish I had the guts to do something like it myself.
