How do you like driving with your 4.11's

I love the 4:11s in my 57 Ranchero....around town. Tolerate them on the in town freeways, won't do the interstates, road trips. Going to swap out to a 3:56 pumpkin (gotta love 9"ers) till I get the time/ parts to fix the factory OD so I can do road trips. .

 

I have 4.10 in my 62 C10 pickup. It hates the highway. I'm looking to get a highway geared rear end asap. As light as a pickup is, I'll still be able to smoke the tires any time I want, so a 3.00ish would be fine for me. I'd go with the T-5 if I were you. Then you can have the best of both worlds.

Had 4:88's in my 62 Nova with a locker and 205 60 15 tire(biggest tire that would fit with the offset of the wheel I had on it). Speedo didn't work - 4200 rpm on the interstate and people were blowing by me. It was a great stoplite car but no fun on the highway...

 

My '67 GS400 has a posi 12 bolt with 4:10 behind a breathed on 455/Th400 set up. Great for surprising Mustand GT's and Ricky Racer in his rice bomb, lousy for long highway trips.

 

I have a Dana 27 with 4.27's and a 3 Spd. OD, OD is 0.70 to 1 and even that sucks on the highway. A bearing let go in the rear end so I'm puttin' in a Dana 44 posi with 3.73's. I originally wanted a 3.54 but I'm planning on taller tires on the rear plus I found a NOS 3.73 factory R & P for a '57 Golden Hawk cheap so I guess 3.73's were meant to be. Ya' don't mess with fate, it messes back!

 

How about a T-5 with OD . . . and a Q.C. - now you're talkin!

 

I ran a 6 speed with 3:42's. Best of both worlds since the trans had a 3:27 first gear and the OD was .76.

 

how about a t 5, overdrive unit, quickchange, and a columbia

 

I've got 4.11's in the bucket and it's great for smoking the tires but the 3 grand to do 55 mph gets old after the first 30 minutes. I just picked up a 3.25 pumkin to put in it and can't wait.

Rear tire size has a ton to do with what gear you are running, I run 4.68 gear in my quickchange but I have 33 inch tall tires so at 60 I am going around 2850 in forth (tranny is a T5 with a .78 OD) and around 2225 in fith. But my motor is small and low torque and it like the 2800-3500 rpm area.
