Yep, looks plenty scary. The bag mounts have to many/to large holes in them to be effective, in my opinion anyway.

If I had any doubts as to whether it would work I would not have posted it here...

We all know if there is shit to talk, it gets talked here.... ;)

Well, I got some doubts about how long its gonna last, but then, again, I know shit about cars.

The two tabs that weld to the inside of the frame look like they could use some gusseting, or maybe if they connected to that other cross mount, That would take some of the tension off of the bottom of those side tabs.

Any pictures of the body on the car with that stance? Low 40 mercs are about as cool as it gets.

  11. My thought too but I'm not a welder. I'm just observing.

Was actually considering a "U" shaped piece between the 2.... Maybe shoulda done that before posting these pix... lol

The floor has to be cut out behind the seat. I will get the body on the chassis next week to begin making the trunk floor, and modifying the running board mounts so they arent the lowest point on the car.

Since I got everyones attention, who knows of a place to get the running boards recovered in the stock rubber?

It's likely you're not done fabbing, as I doubt you're gonna leave this tack welded together:D

That's a wild four bar setup too, by the way...

(I, for one, did not think you were going to leave it tacked together...that's just kinda weird:rolleyes:

  18. I would have gone with smaller holes... Great design though!

You're probably right and it probably won't break but why build something that may be close to that line when you could build it stronger without sacrificing the design? That's what I don't get.

Oh, the other bit I don't get is why put it on here looking for "those" kind of opinions? There is obviously something in you that says maybe there is some doubt about this setup. Do you just want an argument?

My guess is yes, he wanted an aurguement.

The thing about the 2 big holed, junk ass, gonna break off, bag mounts is that the mount is only supported by 2 sections (per tab, 4 total) of 1/4" x 1/4". Also with the first hole being so close to the welded area it will reduce the effective weld area.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Smaller holes more spacing. Or make another horshoe thing and add it to that side, then the "gonna break" tabs are locators and not supporters.

But like I said, I know shit about cars.

  24. If you cant take the heat, get of the kitchen. Dont post something and expect "flying daisys with milk and honey opinions."

Lots of credible opinions here, not a bunch of back yard "hacks".

Tinman - great description by the way. :)

BTW: Im not implying your a "hack"; simply a description.

Geesh, political correctness is going to kill me

Would it be stronger if you extend those cantilivered bag braces all the way across and welded them to the curved support?

    Here's my recommendation:
    1. cut all that holey action off
    2. weld those round tubes (they're structural steel, right?) across the frame above the airbags (where your two gussets are now)
    3. Weld some 1/4" plates to the bottom of the tubes for mounting the bags.
    done.

At`what point was I not taking the "heat".... Just curious....

Kenny FuFu!!!!! Go find something else to do..... Go 4x4 or something :D

There is no room over the top for mounting round tubes without gettting into the holes on the frame.... I have done em that way and definately works. This one, not really practical for what I wanna do.... Maybe Ill rework something... we will see....

The kick-up is really nice, but I have to agree with everyone else....the bag mounts aren't beefy enough.

Considering the fact that the whole damn frame is below scrub line, you need decent bag mounts that don't have a 75% chance of catastophic failure.

Thanks on the kick up. Wasnt sure if anyone noticed the big picture. :D

I am gonna mock another set up and do a sledgehammer test!!! :D

I have seen so many "scrubline" comments on posts on here that I had to throw that out the window right off the bat. Bags may not be traditional but they are here, probably not going anywhere, so lets leave that at the door...
