I have really been fighting myself on whether or not to chop the top on my 36 plymouth (See pics below). Since I am on the fence I was hoping to get a few opinions to push me to one side or the other.

I think it looks proportional as it sits. Don't chop imho.

My own opinion, which means nothing really, is a top should be chopped only to improve the flow or look of whatever's being chopped...
That being said, i kinda dig the look of your coupe as it sits without a lowered lid..and i've never even been a fan of fenderless 'fat fender' cars....and am a big fan of chopped tops..go figure :D
    I'd leave it..

  9. I'd leave it. Looks good.

I agree with Langy, chop it but only a little, 2"-3" inches. Just enough to make it look just right!

  12. I Like it as it is, it'll be a lot of work to chop it for a couple of inches and my not look any better.

I agree with cal cowboy. Maybe try a photoshop chop to get feel for what it would look like. Might be worth the work or it might not.

  14. Unchopped has a nice East Coast look to it, also like the old dirt modifieds. I like it, but if you must chop go easy.

Looks great as it is. Plus, you look like a big guy sitting in it right now...any lower and you might get into the clown car look getting in and out of it.

No chop. Get rid of the bug catcher. My 2 cents

I think I would change the wheels and tires to something a little more HAMB freindly first. Maybe some chrome steelies with cheater slicks and skinnies up front. Or some Tri rib Radirs. Then I would look again at the chop. Changing the wheels and tires will change the personallity of the car completely. I played a round with the chop and I think about 3 (might only be 2 wasn't alot) inches looks pretty good. Also added some different wheels and tires to give you an idea what I was thinking.

I agree with Cal Cowboy - a chop is a lotta work and your coupe looks pretty good the way it is. ( and I love chopped tops)

  24. I had a 36 Dodge. Chopped it 3" and ruined the look. My advice, don't

I would tend to agree. However, it would be interesting to see if someone can photo shop chop it, just to see if it improves the overall side profile and flow of the car.

  27. I don't like the color of it.
Oh this is about the lid isn't it?
Personally I'd give it a whack, right through that huge back glass. That is unless you're after the circle track look in which case I would leave it alone.

I think i would not chop it looks like you set kind of high in it now. if you wont to do some body moods look at the tail end,re'cuver the back and bobb it about 6to8".but leave the top alone.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I am definetley leaning twords leaving it. damnfingers is right, even as it sits now there is not much room. Cal Cowboy had a good point too about the amount of work for 2-3 inches. The grille and the intake are the next to go. Recently bought a 34 chevy grille and am in the process of getting a 3 duece intake. I thought about the steel wheels and after seeing studeboy rendition, I am definetely going to change them. Thanks electrodude and Fat Hack for the photoshop pics. That really helped. Thanks again guys for all your input.

I would leave it. The chop pics look good, but not better (my opinion).
