Nice avatar, ModelCarMan! Looks like an old friend of mine. When they talk about his age, it make me feel REALLY old, because he was in his teens when he first ran with us in ASA.

  6. Hey guys,

Here's a photo of O'Hare Stadium stockcar action. The track closed and torn down in 1968, it still is a very much talked about racing venue even after all these years!

    Enjoy,

    Joel

  7. Here's a few pics of Chicagoland favorite, Sal Tovella.

He ran all kinds of series from Late Models to USAC to Grand National stockcars. I've had the pleasure of meeting him recently and he's quite a gentleman. He tells some great stories and at 80 sum years old, still very spry.

First up, Sal's USAC Superbird. This car by the way, is going to be cloned and lettered by the original sign artist, Art Dexter and host of other Chicagoland lettering guys. This will happen at the Chicago Brushmasters charity art auction at the 2010 Chicago World of Wheels.

Another of Sal's USAC rides. '67 Dodge Charger, also lettered by Chicago great, Art Dexter!

    Enjoy,

    Joel

Love those Sal pics! I'm currently redoing my own '67 Charger (street, not race), and I always love the pics of them as stock cars.

Thanks Indy Big John. Yeah I tried to get a job helping Mark back in the early 80s when he would come down here to Florida to race, but he didn't need anyone at the time. I always liked him, he's only two years older then me, and he was so dam good racing against all those guys older then him it impress the heck out of me.

All nite? Dick Trickle. A pretty good comparison. He told me once that breakfast was the break between the party and racing.
