I dont know why they have this thing in Hickory, don't get me wrong, nothing would make me happier for it to turn into a east coast version of Paso Roble. The interest in customs in this area is weak. The last show had some nice cars , just none of them were customs in the traditional sense. You could count the traditional customs on one hand. Now if I had my car done and was there with it, my opinion would hold more weight I guess. I hope I get proved wrong this year.

I'll be there in my '53 Olds this year. It's not totally traditional (has airride + SBC), but looks the part. I'll be near the Killer Desins striping booth from Thursday night on. Stop in and say Hi!

The Hicory fairgrounds is a great place to have a show. Used to go to yearly shows there when I lived in NC. The place has a special memory for me, because I bought an English Ford Prefect, ex gasser, from a guy at the show. Made a nice little hot rod, but unfortunately I had to sell it a few years after it was finished.

kkoa event is the same weekend at the mason dixon dragway in boonsboro, md. both events are about 50 miles apart but the kkoa event is not opened to imports, mini-trucks and rat rods. first time for this event at the track so it should add more to see.

i rode out this afternoon and it was the most dead thing i've seen. 1/10 the number of cars as last year yet i've seen non local cars in town since tuesday or so. i didn't wanna pony up the $14 for me and the wife to wander through for 15 minutes or a show way smaller than the valdese friday night cruise in. sucks i hoped it'd do well. my custom shit has sat in the driveway for the last 3-4 years while i play with evil aircooled cars. and if the fairgrounds is treating them the way they treated me on doing a vw show there it probably won't happen there much longer. rent in 2009 was 7 TIMES what it was in 2007...ken....

    Hello Everybody,
Video Bob comin at ya. I'd like to throw my 2 cents in on the
comments that came across the board concerning the Lead Sled
Show in Hickory, NC two weeks ago. The last 2 yrs I attended that show
it drew over 700 NICE rides, everything from rat rods to mini trucks to
tricked out Rods & Customs. When the dates were set for the 2009 event
NOBODY knew the the Pinks All Out show was going to be held on that same
weekend. As a result, the Kustoms Of America show AND 5 other events in
the area took a hit. The KOA show pulled maybe 200 cars which wasn't bad
when you consider that of the 5 events that took place with in 50 miles
of Hickory, the most any of them pulled was TWELVE cars. Several
participants at the KOA show planned to go to the Pinks thing Friday
eve. When they called the track they were told they were sold out &
offering "Standing Room" only for $45 a head. If you wanted to run your
    car it cost $350.00
KOA's next event will be in Gettysbury Pa on June 11th thru the
14th & is looking up to be a good event. Participation is open to NOT
only Rods & Kustoms but also to rat rods, mini trucks, street machines
old school bikes etc. At every KOA event along with the awards thats
given out are "Big Bucks"in several classes plus an engine of your
choice, a set of Wide White Walls plus MORE. If any of you take a
notion to attend one of the KOA events stop by & introduce yourself.
Also for all you FORD owners. Hope to see you at the F-100
Supernationals in Knoxville this coming weekend. This event is now open
to ALL Ford production vehicles. Having worked with the event promoter
for over 20 yrs this is guaranteed to be a "killer event" Be there or

    be square
