I appreciate the compliment but....

I was leaving Brewbakers today in Huntington Beach and some guy hops out of a new Lexus and says, "Wow, nice, what is it a 34 coupe?" I appreciate the compliment and we all had to start some where but some times I have to shake my head and chuckle.

Here is what I was driving.

 

...yeah, a '34 COUPE, that's exactly what it is...oh my goodness, too freakin' funny!

 

Guess he thought the bed was just a new fangled extra large backseat...lol

 

A good Lexus owner will say that i think its got somethin to do with the A/C fumes

I had a guy tell me one night...Man, nice 55 Chevy you have...I had one just like it when i was your age...I started to laugh cause the problem was it was a 62 Chevy II that had a white top and red bottom..I tried to correct him wich only made him upset and reply 'O-what the hell do you know you just a punk kid anyways'...

Perhaps he did a quick add up 38 grille minus 29 body plus truck divided by roadster pickup.....equals 34 coupe

 

i think you should have told him yeah 34, the last year they put beds on coupes.

 

He just saw that your car was cooler than his and wanted some of the action.

Maybe he was confused by the one my friend swapped for a couple years ago.. it's a '62 Nova that's painted in two-tone primer with painted on 55 Chevy style side trim to divide the colors. The guy who built it was from around Auburn somewhere.

 

A '39 truck grille on a '28-'29 A roadster pickup makes it a '34 coupe? If he sees my '38 Ford pickup, he'll probably think it's a nice Packard.

 

Shouda looked at his Lexus appliance and said "Thanks, nice Dodge you got there."

 

At the dr office the other day one of the med techs called my rpu ,a cute dune buggy. oh well.

At least he didn't call it a rat rod.

This is where we have an opportunity to be nice and win them to the Hot Rod lifestyle. He recognized your car was very cool. Not everyone grew up with cars or have a great knowledge base like many of you. They may not know the year, but they know it's nice to see something different.....
