Jeff/21. I was going to say 11.0 @ 108 doesnt compute. Anyone remember O'Connel, Hill & Busharts record holding F/G black 57 Chevy sedan. 292 cubes, mucho weight, leave at 10,000, shift at 10,000 from the late 60's, early 70's ?

Yep, it's the "nature of the beast" (racers in this case). The folks with access to the best knowledge and equipment are gonna rise to the top. That usually involves money. It is also why bracket and index racing was born, kinda levels the playing field. Until all of the electronics and stuff to get an advantage are factored in.

I did some checking on the "Black Arrow" deal and too me it appears that Jenkins owned and drove the car in 1965 (factory backed Super Stock car). Several websites list him as the owner in 65. Then Chrysler and Jenkins couldn't see eye to eye about sponsorship at the end of the season and Jenkins switched to Chevy. I assume that's when Doc Burgess ended up with the car. It looks like Jenkins worked with him for at least a season. I think it's pretty interesting history, even if it does wander off topic into Super Stock.

It is. I believe Colesy's intent for this thread was Modified Eliminator which included the gassers.

With the number of quality color photos Bob Rice has it's always an enjoyable history lesson. I think Gassers are OK as long as we stay clear of the Gas/Supercharged class. Not that I don't like them but I think there's another thread on here already for them.

OK, I was going by a Mopar website that has a list of 1965 Factory Backed Superstocker owners that has Jenkins on the list, some pictures that has Bill Jenkins' Black Arrow on the side of the car, and the fact that Jenkins was negotiating with Mopar for another years sponsorship with Mopar when he went to Chevy.

A couple more of Jenkins 65. First photo is from the Cars Magazine race at Cecil County. That's Doc Burgess in the white pants laying down some rosin for The Grump and the second is a Chrysler ad after the Winter Nationals.

A couple of photos from the 1966 NHRA Tulsa World finals. Deloy Naeb defeats Ferd Napfel in the Street Eliminator final. (These two were also in the most unusual name final as well :D) and Joe Lunati (the cam guy) in his A Modified /Sports Production roadster.

Yes they did. My dad ran D/MP class and in a 55 chevy called "Ceasers Chariot" and he raced against "Wompin Wagon" who both live in Louisville KY. I wish I knew how to post pictures.
