Old car commercials..Do you remember

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by seesko, Apr 3, 2009.

  1. The AMC commercial for the 68 Javalin where the car is parked in the drive way and this kids old man is scrutinizing the "improvements the son has made to his new car. :) Seats replaced with fiberglass buckets to "save weight" or the roll bar for safety. And the ultimate, A super charger with a bug catcher scoop sticking through the hood. Sonny says it for more power:D and blips the linkage BRRRRUUMMM. And then dad yells up to Ma, "Come see what your son did to his new car, HE BUTCHERED IT!!!" And then he starts chasing around the car. Great commercial.
    Those were the days;)
Do you recall any of those great old ads?

How about the Hertz commercial where people would come floating out of the sky into the seat of a new chevy convertible. Let hertz put you in the drivers seat TODAY!!!!

  3. There was a gas station ad where a guy & his girlfriend pull up in a 55 chevy gasser looking car and he digs thru his pockets & he realizes all he has is change because he spent his last 5 bucks on an Eelco barefoot gas pedal. But the gas was so cheap that the attendant said that he had enough coin. Can't remember what company it was. I,m digging back about 40 years.

  4. Never saw that one. Sound like a good one though. Ah .22 cents a gal gas:( those were the days:)

  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvKvP4r4i2oHow about the one for the 64 Chevy Impala? They had the car on top of one of the Mesas in Monument Valley. They had to take the car apart. Use a helicopter, fly the pieces up and reassemble it on top of the mesa. No computer graphics in 1964.

I know it's not old but I love the new Bridgestone tire comercial with mr and mrs. Potato head and he's cruising his boxster and she's bitching the whole time to slow down, He slams on the brakes to miss some sheep and her mouth goes flying off and he gets a big smile on his face, she changes out her eyes with angry eyes and he floors it.
I was rolling the first time I saw that one.

In 1956, as I recall, Plymouth (and maybe other Mopars) used the slogan, "Suddenly, it's 1960!" to indicate their advanced styling, etc.

    Seesko-

I remember that Javelin ad and tried to find it on Youtube but no such luck. I remember the line, "It's a great car, Dad, I only made it better."

    Hopefully someone will post it.

Man, these commercials bring back good memories; usually Sunday evenings around the TV. I also remember the buzz when the new models were unveiled at the local dealership... all the kids I knew were there. Then we'd compare notes at school the next Monday. I miss those days.

How about Lawrence Welk with "there's a Dotch for every crotch"? Translation-there's a Dodge for every garage.

  28. yea i have 2 vhs....yes vhs of 50-60's car commercials.

  29. Wow, back in the 50's and 60's the actors must have kissed a lot of ass when the big car companies came in to do commercials.

  30. Maybe a little new to the hard-core traditional guys, but does this ring a bell?

"Put a Dodge in YOUR Garage... hunnn-nee"

That little old lady used to hit the drag strips all over SoCal, I don't think she ever actually drove, but she was always near the "brand new, shiny red, Super Stock Dodge"
