To find Australia's quickest flathead powered hot rod Aussie Day of the Drags 2010 is offering a $2,000 prize pool for the fastest naturally aspirated and mechanically supercharged hot rods in a sidevalve shootout.

Blastin' these old motors down the quarter is what nostalgic racing is all about!

If you think you've got what it takes to be the inaugural winner, and stake your claim on having Australia's Fastest Flathead email your expression of interest to [email protected].

On Saturday March 6, 2010 the flag drops and the bullshit stops!

It'll be interesting to see if a blown V12 Lincoln flathead would win, or a V8.

I know a guy who has been building a 671 blown flathead, with a lenco behind it, and running it in an old altered topolino (sic). Pitty there's no centre steer cars able to run.

True, but it's ok if they're runnin' quick Flatheads!

Hey Artiki, maybe we could (eventually) have an International "challenge".

I guess flathead can mean any sidevalve engine?

Opens up a whole big range of monster flatheads e'g Rod Hadfeilds Commer truck based engine and some of those big Dodge Sixes;) .the little Ford V8's will be nothing......
Imagine 413 cubic inches of Mopar flathead or 602 cubic inches of Continental flathead :D:D

I see they're just as careful about clarity in the rules are they are here.

"No Nitro" means methanol, nitrous oxide, hydrazine is legal, doesn't it?
Do you think they'll notice before the race, or after the race?
Depends on whether their friends win...

I thought for a while over the rules without making it too messy

  15. rules smules.......there are times when I think some of you guys get so lost in the details you loose the big picture....

Looks like I better extract a digit, dig out the rpu project and find that 4/71 soon....;):D

    Cheers,

    Drewfus:)

What's the fastest flathead you have down there at the moment? We've got a club member relocating with his car to the other side of the world, he may well be up for the challenge.

  17. Don't honestly know, there are a few fast (in flathead terms) rails and the like that we know of, but anyone's guess within the the 'street' guise

There is an injected FED down here in Melbourne which has dipped into the 9s and another one over in Western Australia that is blown and injected and has gone mid 8s. Although both are purpose built it would only take a few mates, a T body, a very light frame and any one of those donks and presto..possible 11sec. times.

This is possibly the most opportune way for a group of guys to get together and build a car the way most fuel dragsters were built.
One guy provides the motor another the chassis and so on.
I just don't think there will be a whole lot of guys willing to trash a perfectly good 59a. Plenty of Dodge 6s and 8s around. Don't take much to get them going.
