Go to 'Manage Your Account' on the top left of the page.....Go to 'edit avatar' on the left panel...... the pic will have to be sized pretty small as it says.

That's an oddly proportioned car that Hinnershitz is driving at Darlington in '54. Was this a Championship Trail race?

Yes it was, that is the Iddings Auto Parts dirt car, shown as a Meyer chassis.

  8. Jim, per dick Wallen's 50's, if date is correct, #57 is T.H. See page #537. Checked years 52, 53, 55 but no races @ Darlington. mlight9.

  9. Rootie, keep up the good work, your pics are terrific. The more the merrier. mlight9.

Another kinda rare one: The one and only champ car race at Bainbridge (Cleveland) Ohio 1947.

Billy DeVore in the #27 (that could probably double as a locomotive:)) and Geo. Conners in the #14.
Rex Mays in the Bowes #9.

Jerry Daniels #66- Sonny Helms #81-#56 Herk-- Hoosier Hundred 1963

    Jimmy Davies #99- Don Freeland #38--Milwaukee 1953

Not sure, but I believe this is Shorty Templeman in the Forbes #7--Sacto 1961

    Rootie-
Your ability to find old very rare pics is amazing! Was this a mile track; dirt or tar?
DeVore must have had arms like tree trunks to hand onto that big car!

    Rootie,
In your latest pic's, the car in the middle of the pack with Scratch, Sonny and Herk is Johnny White in the Pfrommer Trucking Special.

    Keep em coming.

Spike, it was a mile dirt track at, I think, a amusment park near Cleveland. They held other kinds of races there, but it didn't last too long.

Doing a little more research on the Bainbridge track, Eddie Zalucki ran the #25 Dryer car and finished 11th. Of note; this is the track where Bob Pankrantz was badly hurt in a 1948 midget race and a NASCAR race was held there in 1950.

  17. Racer 5c, I just spoke to Jimmy White re his dad's Weinberger car. He basically verified the info to date but that is without his seeing the car in person !! He is interested in knowing who bought the car from Barr-Jackson's Auction. He tried thru Barr-Jack but they of course will not give out info. He also gave me the name of a "Boyce" who makes race car parts of some sort, I think he said from Chicago, as the owner either @ the time of auction or before. He said the best info source was a Mr. Stone, his dad's mechanic who just died recently. He stated Stone told him when they learned of the car's existence, that he doubted it was the real car!!! I thank you for getting me in touch w/him. mlight9.

mlight, There was a Boyce who was a bigtime latemodel builder back in the 70s from that area, but I haven't heard the name in a long time. Indybigjohn may know more.

Josh, my friend Jim Simon and I have been hunting info on this car for quite awhile. He believes it to be from the Cincy area. Do you recognize the car or does anyone know anything about it?

Just an information request. Given the incredible photos and knowledge in this thread, I'm figuring someone here will know. I have this photo of my Dad (on the right) and his two buddies from 1954.
    Is the track Dayton?
And who are the drivers in the #33 and #7 in the background?
    Thanks for the help,
    David.

I saw earlier in the thread some stuff about Barney Barnes. I remember him from when I was little. I snapped this photo of him at Winchester in 1981 (?) during a vintage meet. My Dad used to race midgets and had a stack of old midget tires in the barn that he gave to Barney for his restored car. Barney was always such a nice guy it seemed like.

Pretty hard to pinpoint who was in any given car on any weekend back then. If I had to guess I would say possibly Larret Crocket in the 33 and it kinda looks like Ruttman poking up out of the 7 (?)

#7 maybe Duane Carter, it's the Miracle Power car.
#33 Looks like it may be the Columbus Auto Parts car

Sorry to disappoint ya, Rootie, but I can't recall anybody named Boyce from the Chicago area from my stock car days. We had a lot of guys from there, including Ray Young, the Ruolo brothers, etc.

Ovalmeister: Your dad's photo is probably 1954. That looks like the nose of Bob Sweikert's No. 24 on the far right. Duane Carter in No. 7. Probably Larry Crockett in the Erickson No. 33 on the left.

    For Racer 5c,
I think you are looking for Bob Boyce of Boyce Industries in Chicago. He did claim to own a Weinburger Homes car. I think he sold it a few years ago.
