Here's my list, feel free to chime in. Especially if you're offended, becuase you're just the person that needs to read this.

    1) Suede. It was really cool ten? or so years ago. Now that you can get the paint off the shelf in a 'flatz' brand, the trend is officially not hot. I admit I like suede green and other colors, but the black is beyond help.

    2) skullz, spiderwebs, iron crosses, drawings of rodents or any reference to one, and those crappy widows peaks on headlights. Also your shifter and 'clever' shift knob that are so tall they hit the roof and make it easy to knock the car out of gear.

    3) any trend, magazine, description, or word that has a 'z' in it that isn't listed that way in the dictionary.

    4) fake patina. Who is fooled by this? To me real patina is way cool...but it *wasn't* always that way. I think people forget that.

    5) fake speedshop/whatever signs on your truck. Who is fooled by this?

    6) bags. Why you want your car to look like a minitruck is beyond me. Real lowriders on hydraulics, however, are bad ass.

    7) pretty much fake anything, but I'll leave myself an out because some fake things are still cool, like dummy spots.

    8) that repop 50's Caddy/Oldsmobile air cleaner that everybody seems to think is so great. If it's repopped, it's probably not a hot look anymore. Unless you did the repop yourself. Then, my hats off to you, sir!

    9) rattle can/rolled on/brushed on paintjobs. It takes 700 hours to do this and make it look decent, and that's time you could've spent earning money for some real paint. Exception made for offroad vehicles/trucks, and people that are just too broke to afford real paint(ie under 25 and laid off crowd).

    10) lexan/plastic/no-windows/1 pc door windows. This is lazy or shoddy workmanship. If your top can't fit real glass after you chopped it, you did it wrong. If you don't put in side glass, you're driving a rat-turd rod, because you're too lazy to finish the car. Speaking from exeperience, it can be a real PITA, but it separates the men from the boys. Lotsa tech articles here about cutting glass, it's not rocket science. 1 pc door glass....gross and/or lazy.

That's my top-ten list, what say you?

My pickup is getting one pc. side glass because I like it that way, and I think it will be more work and more money not less.

I hope that maybe someday people will realize that a 1930's-1950's car "laying frame" is the farthest thing from 'traditional'

good thing I only look to the lil pages for inspiration

another thing that is 'played' is people in this hobby who
DO NOT build their own rides, but yet puff them out any chance they get.

(i guess that is their justification for them spending so much money?)

Granted you may be tired of seeing this stuff...and I know you aren't alone...

It should make you feel good that you "get it"...It's just going to make your car look better, while all the main stream poseurs are making their ride "ol skool"...

quit complaining and just sit back and smile that you don't have to try so hard to be "cool"...

    ...end of story.

    - i think suede paint looks good on lots of stuff. i have 2 suede cars.
    - i ride a west coast chopper CFL that has an iron cross on it.
    - yep, have some cars with airbags on 'em too.
    - damn... i have one of those caddy air cleaners sitting in my garage.

oh, and the kicker that you missed...... i've hired people to do work on my cars too-- versus doing everything myself!!! See the one in the picture--- i didn't even build it!

this coming from a guy who's 5th generation DEEP car nut, "built" plenty of cars and have been working and obsessing over this shit since i was a kid.

damn, i'm such a poser. cry me a river, Pariz Hilton.

    So what trends are hot?

If you build what you like, you won't give a fuck about trends.

  19. Is it traditional to argue about what's hot/trendy on the internet?

I mean we may as well get all the bullshit in one place so it's easier not to step in...

I love the suede look, always have. Apparently A LOT of people like it or it wouldn't have become a trend. That's why I'm going to paint my car suede. So when traditional isn't cool anymore, what are you going to do? Sounds to me like you are copying something too...

HAHA... I have you beat my friend.

I'll see your list and raise you one 59 truck (current daily driver) that I roller painted with a foam roller and a can of Rustoleum.

I'm with Scott...I'm guilty of all the above, well, except the fake patina, I can't afford it!..In the old days the poor boys would put bricks in the trunk to "lay frame"..I have some engine parts laying around here somewhere with a certain plant leaf engraved onnit, boy, there is a relic. I would love to get Von Franco to lay some lines on my Cadillac air cleaner to go on my old Cadillac.. Oh, and don't forget the shrunken head hanging from my mirror..and I'm saving up my coin for one of Seans interiors...
