On a recent trip to San Diego, while playing tourist in Ocean Beach I came across the coolest barber shop Ive ever seen, called "THE CHOP SHOP"! The place was decorated 50's hot rod/punk rock/art studio/ just a cool place. I didn't have a camera with me but on my next trip I'm gonna get some pics. My son goes to a Barber Shop/ Hot rod hang out in HUNTINGTON BEACH,I'm sure theres lots of barber shops like this out there, lets see em!

Eddie's Deluxe in Sacramento. The owner is a good friend of mine so I don't think she will mind me posting these.

If you guys have a good barber in the neighborhood, make sure you give them your business! There are few barbers around here, I go to mine twice a month and going anywhere else would be like cheating haha. It's not like there's a striped pole on every corner!

I miss the old "Flloyd the Barber" shops man, old men sitting around drinking coffee, spitting tobacco, playing checkers... a poster of the three different haircuts available on the wall... black combs floating in blue liquid of certain toxicity... wet cigar stubs smoldering in the ashtrays... fuck yeah man. Where did those go?

  6. Another for Hawleywoods in Costa Mesa. No women allowed, and a free beer with a haircut.

There's a an old fashion barber shop on Catalina Island. Striped pole and everything. GREAT shave with a hot towel and straight razor.

Might be a cool place, but traditional? Floyd the barber was a real hoot and fun to watch. The traditional barber shop scared me with my long hair, knew better than to give them a chance at my locks. No crew cut here. And what was that blue stuff that all the combs were in?

the barbershop where i grew up in San Leandro has one just like it in the front window. It's been there sine 1968 i think. This is the only the 2nd one i've ever seen. There's a matching poster that has a boy's version as well--i used to get the "little league" until about 6th grade or so, haha. I got the flattop like you see in the lower right from 8th grade til high school graduation. good times.

If you're in the Brea/ Fullerton/ Yorba Linda area, there's a great shop called Strait Up Barbershop in Brea. It's definitely not the "scene" as a lot of today's shop has become--it's just a "straight up" shop if you know what i mean. They'll do pretty much any type of cut, old school or new, you name it.

As far as Hawleywoods goes, I'm not one to put down a man and his trade, but honestly, I'd equate Hawleywoods with the car kulture deluxe crowd. i used to work in costa mesa at a rod shop, and i walked in there. when i was told i needed an appointment, it really put a damper on the situation. Got an appt for the following week, and got a decent hair cut. it seemed that the barbers were just thugs though--rude and low class. When i turned down the beer (b/c i had to go back to work) i felt like i farted in church--everyone gave me a dirty and unapproving look.

and i've found that Krew Komb is not only cheaper, but much more effective than Hawleywood's Layrite.

Big fan of Hawleywoods, Costa Mesa and Long Beach. Cold beer, no icky girls and usually some kind of porn playing on the idiot box....lets see, been a while since I've been in there, but I believe that there was a bridget the midget movie playing last time I was there. Donnie is keeping the traditional barbershop alive and well maintained.

I usually go to Punchies here in corsicana, TX. Where the walls are yellow from cigarette smoke, and the latest edition of Playboy is waiting for you. Oh, cant forget the hot shave cream and straight razor cleanup around the ears and neck.
