went to north dakota late sept '08 to pick up this clean '52 chevy 4100 from the original owner. its titled as a '54 so thats what we call it. the plan is to build a truck with more detail and better finish than my last one. the last one was a '48 chevy 4100 built between march and june of '08. so first i sketched up what i thought it should look like. i have a hundred more drawings but this is the first one. i really wanted to do the kegs again for fuel tanks, and add some stacks... bought a bunch of 2x4" steel, cut it up laid it out grabbed some stuff from the barn an put it together
had an old caprice out back so yanked the motor.trans/etc out of that. revised the motor mount situation added the bracing cut the floor out to det the body on, motor is back @ 29" started the dash, more on this later on to the top choppin' measure & mark cut
try to put it back together last week a freind of mine that delivers beer stopped by with some brand new miller 1/2 barrels i also started cleaning the cab out. the floor and structure will be 1x1" covered with sheet metal. did some more with bed later in the week thats where its at as of 2/6/09, plan to have it on the road by may 18th. more pics to come. i called the local mack truck dealer friday and they had a pallet of chrome 5" stacks, so i had them send a couple over, also another buddy of mine dropped a couple 16g turbos off that fit nicely behind the cab...
air ride comin' later this week, there has actually been some progress just not much time to update. i will get some pics up saturday.
not gonna be orange for long, the tangerine dream name will be saved for a future project, were now going black w./silver & charcoal striping...
long story short i wanted to run a 3" dropped tube axle with cross steer on this truck. i also have the running boards on the ground (almost). i removed 2" from the bottom of the fenders and moved the boards up the same amount. what i was left with was an lt1 motor (which has the lowest height small block intake i know of) that sat right up near the hood. that i thought looked ridiculous. now since i always try to do things differently and unique in some way i decided to move it back and use a few factory made van parts in the process (trans/oil dipstick), this motor also lends itself well to this since there are no maintenance items on the top. the added benefit of a low c.g. and central location is nice too. most of all its different though.
lotsa bracket/plate progress today... these are from upper left to right the front lower side plates, front & rear upper side plates, rear upper shock mounts, front frame gusstes, rear frame gussets, rear lower frame side plates. front corner of the bed frame air tank/x-member
