show your mopar powered cars and trucks

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by moparron426, Dec 24, 2008.

  1. The engine shown in your post is the common International V-345 cid or V-304 cid V-8 manufactured by International Harvester Company from about 1958 to about 1982. They also made a V-8-392 cu. in. that used a Holley 4-barrel carb.

I like the picture of the IH Australian COE truck. Do you by any chance know what the model designation for it was?

Yep your right. Sorry, my bad.

    Its a 392ci V8 with a Holley 4 Barrel Carb.

Again, Im pretty sure Chrysler made the engines.

Sorry mate. Dont know the model designation but can find out.

  5. No way did Chrysler make those engines! Not even one single part for them! The International V-8 266, 304, 345, and 392 were all 100% International manufactured.

I worked for International Harvester Company in the truck division for 32-years and retired from that company. Those engines were made by IHC! I have been to the IH factory and seen them being manufactured. The ONLY Chrysler component ever used in an International truck was the 747 automatic transmission in Scouts, pickups, and Travelalls from about 1973 to 1980.

  15. I worked for (and retired from) the IHC Truck Division (US) and I've never heard about that, but I can totally believe it. In the '70's the Scout, Pickup, and Travelall sales were booming and the factory that produced the IH 304, 345, and 392 V-8's couldn't keep up with the demand. In the US they used the American Motors 401 V-8 as an option in a few pickups and Travelalls to 'fill the gap'. They also used the AMC 238 6-cylinder as an option in Scouts for a while. All IH Scouts, Pickups, and Travelalls equipped with automatic transmissions used the MOPAR 727 Automatic transmission during that era, so I know that IH had a working relationship with Chrysler.

The Chrysler 383 is a damn fine engine and would make a great engine for a mid range truck!

Both my mopar powered cars may be OT for HAMB but the truck fits the NSRA reqs now :) It was my dads 78 dodge macho power wagon for its first 30 years in CO, and now it has retired to FL (only 51K miles). From the cab on back is the original paint (little brother had to get the front fenders repainted in 81).
The other is a 33 that eventually will have a blown 392.
