I have been working on my front end for my 1930 sedan. I am running a 1932 frame with split 1946 wishbones. The car is really damn low, so I can't run the 'bones under the chassis without seriouse clearance issues. I am considering sleaving the frame and attaching them inside, but am not too sure about it. I would just fix them to the outside of the chassis, but it is not too aesthetically pleasing for the most part. Has anybody done anything creative to help the looks of things? What was have you guys attached them? Please post some pics!!!! -drZ
I know it's not what you asked for, but heres what's on my model A. I cut down the mounts from speedway and cut a slot in the frame and welded it from the top and underneath.
I used 32 rail on my roadster and I think that the lines on these rails are one of the most recognized shapes in rodding and I really dislike the addition of a wishbone bracket to the bottom of the rail, it just screws the shape up so I made these mounts that I integrated into the sides of the rails. Also allowed me to mount the end in double shear, which is my preference for a strong mount. Rex
DocZ... Schrader's Speed & Style has a kit for thru-the-frame mounting of Ford tie rod ends...includes the wishbone bungs, tie rod ends, and thru-frame bungs for $100. http://www.schradersspeedandstylestorefront.com
i saw a pic earlyer today where the guy used the ball and cup from the center of the bone on the side of the frame looked killer but i dont remember what thread it was in
I pretty much have everything need that I can't chuck up and make. I was looking more for how to attach it. I have a good mind of how I am going to do it. I will be sure to post up once it is done. I think it will turn out pretty neat, I am just having trouble figuring the angle right now. Thanks! -drZ
That was just a locator to find where the perch was going to be seated, then it was welded up, that piece is just a tool I use for that stuff.
