The black tonneau was a quick temporary piece when we first got the car back on the road. The pleated white cover will be flush with the door tops.

  4. Cool! Obviously we share the same vision...It will look great!!!

I'd be happy to sell you some dummies, but that car needs real Appletons. You really did a great job! That car deserves some magazine coverage. I'll put in a word for you, if you don't mind.

Chad's got it right, 552's or 112's. Either of these would fit perfect on this beauty. I vote Yes.

Just do a search on the main board and you'll find tons of info an picts.

Dummy spots, despite what the nay-sayers will tell you, are period correct. My old man had them on his '49 Ford in 1958. Real Appleton's would be better. Either way, I agree with the idea of more chrome on the top half. There's my opinion. Take it for what it's worth.

  13. stick with what your dad wanted would be my choice. great car either way.

    As is...

With Spotlights (best to use are the S-112, or S-552's) and white tonneau (but still the temp shape)

And this would be the way I would do it... with the lake pipes removed.

And please keep the one bar hubcaps, or even better replace them with some more period perfect ripple disk one bar hubcaps like in the black and white photo... But whatever you do don't put 56-57 Caddy hubcaps on a 36 Ford!!!

Spots would look good and give it that 50's vibe, but I also like it when someone goes period correct, but still different. I'd say leave it as is and keep people guessing if your gonna run them or not.

That car is just gorgeous. I'd do the spots and lose the lakes, my 2 cents.

thats what i thought, why is it all my old magazines from the 50's and early 60's advertise dummy spots, just like the ones you buy today.
ive even found old ads for fibreglass hot rod bodies.
what exactly does period correct mean these days.
if you look in alot of old magazines alot of show cars have dummies.
anyway i thought spots would look good but after looking at the pictures i think they make it look a bit to busy and less smooth in that area and they look a bit bulky, kind of like mine now i think of it.

  20. It's your dad's car and if you are trying to build it as he has dreamed it would look like go ahead and use the spotlights,,,I don't care for them but it ain't my car,,,HRP

I'd say spot it, just to see the smile on your dads face and cause it would look cool!

It looks good as is but I would be inclined to make your old man happy and put them on. If that is what he envisioned I would throw them on!
