So, my Father has a 1956 F-100 that has been sitting in pieces for nearly a decade. I was tore apart after a flood that left it up to the dash in water, just never got around to getting it all back together. A few months ago I went down to his house with a trailer and brought back the frame and axles, blasted the frame in my backyard, and painted it up. I removed all of the supention brackets, cleaned, painted , and re-installed them with grade-8 hardware. Some of them were loose, one of them was only hanging on by ONE rivet. Here is how it sits before all of the brackets were back on when I was painting it. Its fairly straight and clean with only a fair amount of rust where the old wood bed was. For an updated powerplant, I pulled a 2001 Ford Explorer 5.0 for cheap at the local boneyard and ditched the fuel injection for half what I paid for it. You can see it in the back left of the picture. The old 272 v-8 was there and in decent shape, but we decided to go this route for a bit more power and the amount of aftermarket support. I wonder if a T-5 will fit behind it without any firewall or floor mods? Anyhow, this will be a decently drawn out project but I will try and take some pics of the latest progress later.
Nice I did the same thing with my 50 only I wire wheeled the entire frame with a grinder I had more time than money and the frame was nice I also picked up some front end stuff like drums backing plates spindles a hole bunch of stuff at the swapmeet that was plated for 200.00 so my whole front end is chomed hrer are a few pics.
Here are a couple of other pics for ya I will be watching for more build pics and progress so keep us posted I love these old trucks. Here is before and after the truck is primered with cobalt blue fire wich will not stay but my brother is a air brush guy and wanted to do it but I tend to like the more traditional 50s early 60s style I should start a build thread myself but I do not post that often.
Well, I started out that way, but I bought a sand blasting kit that hooked to my pressure washer. Works great other than the tips get eaten up fast. Keeps the dust down too. I think it was around $50, so nothing high end. Still spent a good bit of time with wire wheels and paper. I think I just got my fingerprints back. Good looking pics too!
So here is a pic of the progress made on the engine... Everything is just mocked up right now. Once we make sure everything fits and works well with our set up I will gasket everything and and seal it up for running.
