http://www.chevrolettruckservice.com/weird/gmc-5window/index.html Linky linky.... Always thought one of those cabs might be cool on my 3100.....
I love how fast you can get answers on this site. Now I want to see more pictures. does any one have a pictures or a possible 4dr conversion or a 3 door ? I would also love to see a full truck with the 5 window cab if anyone has any pictures.
Okay.... here's more... Nother 5 window... Fleet 100 '59 GMC. Ever seen one? It is a rare truck. It has a Chevy cab and a GMC title. There are other items that are Chevy as well. I don't know how long they made them, but I have a picture somewhere of a '55 second series GMC Fleet 100, looks like a 55 Chevy shortbed with an expanded metal grill. Check out the bottom left for the factory photo. http://www.oldgmctrucks.com/page0412.html
Thanks for posting all of the pics, I have one of the 100 models with the single head light, and a gmc 300 wrecker. That is why i was so interested in the 5 window cabs!
Re: 55-59 chevy oddities -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- They were all big trucks. Drag'n '59- lets see some pics of YOUR truck! Looks cool in the icon. __________________ President/TORQPEDOS C.C.- JWTIF Here ya go...Thanks! Not many good pics to show...I am having to back track and fix and redo some stuff I don't like so, I haven't taken many pics since it has been painted.
I read somewhere that fleet option trucks with the single headlights and the mesh grillework were built to save a few bucks on larger volume purchases.
I"M having to build one 57 4 door with short bed fleetside (58) Not cause I"m real sure I like them put thats all you see (NEW TRUCKS) Been out of work almost a year. And need to build something I can sell. Will put all new IFS and all the other stuff. you Know that theycant live with out power disk ,power windows and air and so on. I sure hope some one will have some money when I get done> I dont have a finance guy
Does anyone have any other info or photos these GMC 5 window cabs??? Did they only come on certain CLF trucks? Thanks, Sean
i would mind having a 5 window cab myself. my understanding it was only the big 2ton and up GMC only, fleet option, in which the standard style cab is the same as a 1/2 ton cab
I found one of those '55-'59 5 window GMC huge-ass trucks locally about a year or so ago, I considered stopping and making an offer on it, then I realized I don't have the time or space to put together something wacky like that. Maybe if he'd let me sawzall off just the roof and parts I needed I could save it for later, but really, I don't need that right now. Wish I'd brought a camera, though...
Not sure I like the look of the 5 windows on that cab?? But then I prefer small windows to the big window anyway.
Me too... here in North Carolina the big back window makes it a fishbowl in the summer... super hot if you don't have A/C, the small window stays cooler.
