Wow, you scored. Yeah, "local pickup only" discourages a lot of folks.
Throw him an extra $20 or something so he doesnt feel gyped...you never know, other guys that were watching it and forgot to bid could be hitting him up after the fact and offering him more $. If might be worth a negative feedback for the $500 someone could be offering him.

From looking at the add it looks like he just wanted it out of the garage and wasn't interested doing the research to try and get big bux out of it.

    Nice score there.

Guess you got a better deal than me. I bought a completely rebuilt, never been started, '56-324 Olds from a guy in Long Island a few years ago off ebay. $50.00 but cost me $370.00 to ship it to Detroit, MI. Still was a good deal.
    Congrats on yours.

You really should have posted a "What's it worth?" As in, "Is an Oldsmobile engine worth a dollar? Should I buy this? Is this too much?" Something to rile the troops up a little! :D

    Nice score!

There's a secret place on ebay where idiots post great stuff - I always look there first. Found a 56 Chev 2dr hdtp in SE Idaho, got it for $1500 (this was a bit over a year ago). Had been sitting in front of the old guy's 'driver' (some late Buick) for years - his kid 'drug it home' to work on, then married some chubby little gal in the next town over and never looked back. The dad called and the kid kept putting him off, so the guy stuck put it up for sale in the section he thought best described the car, and that's where I found it. Ran up there, didn't even try to start it, put it on my trailer and headed south. Wound up selling it less than a month later to a guy in SLC for more....much more. It ran just fine and dandy, but the PG was useless. I think Ebray is great - for buyers.

last summer I bought a 48 ford coupe and a sedan for $200 for the pair, some people just don't know how to list things properly and really don't care what they sell for.

I lived in "REIDSVEGAS" for 18 years. Used to be a lot of old car guys in that area. Anyhow, that was a great score!

Is that some kind of an LP/Propane carb? I don't know Olds, but it looks kinda funky with that rear inlet to the carb....

The reason to bid .99 cents is to keep the seller from ending the auction early, while you ponder if you want to make a real bid or not. I don't know if this still works, with all of the ebay rule changes in the last couple of years. It used to be that once a bid was received, then the seller could not end the auction early.

No, you can end an auction with bids on it. I've seen it happen several times.
