Hey all, I know some dont like these threads, but i would like some input. I found an otherwise complete 1963 Ford unibody truck (minus tailgate) with title that are looking for a Model A project. It is titled and runs. I have a 1928 Model a coupe body and some misc. sheetmetal. Here's the deal, my new job puts me on the road a lot and i have been thinking of putting the coupe for sale and trying to get a "smaller" project. I made contact and put the trade bait so to speak out to the truck owner. What do you think? There's definitely pros and cons to this deal but it would get me in the garage with my son quicker.. and he can probably see the end of a vehicle requiring less attention. JD
Can we see pics? Let me let you know right up front that I'm biased, but I would grab that '63 truck...
i know... just like to drive something sooner than later... i get impatient. here's a link ( i hope) to my photobucket album. (just created) http://s589.photobucket.com/albums/ss337/jdelong_album/
Dude Are you nuts?? Model A coupe for a farm truck????? I can find those mid '60s Ford pick ups all day long, wanna trade?
Yeah dude, put the pipe down for a second and get your head straight. A 28 Coupe for an old truck?! No dice, no way, no how. The coupe is way cooler, even in it's current state and always will be. Sure, it will take longer to get on the road, but think of that as a lot more extra time to spend with your boy with the end result of having a project you built with your son from the ground up. And when you fly by a dozen 63 pickups in the weeks following the completion of your build, you can turn to your son (who very well may be driving that coupe and you riding shotgun by then, but that's besides the point) and smile. You could pick up a 63 truck A LOT easierdown the road if you really want it. Keep the coupe. Patience is a virtue. Keep the coupe. Drive a gas sipping beater until you finish the coupe, but keep the coupe. Or make me a fat deal on the coupe and go by a stupid truck. But that's just my advice.
maybe i can help , i will trade ya , come get my truck! i know its a hit on my part but im tryin to help you out.. puff puff pass , dont be a bogart! oh use the (IMG) tag in your photobucket to show pics man!
I would think that the coupe body is worth a lot more than a truck project. There are some nice truck projects that can be had for a grand or a little more. I'd keep the coupe and put it away for later and find a nice project and work on it.
I think it depends on the condition of both, but when you get done one will be called a hot rod and the other will be a nice old truck. By the way, the tailgates for those don't interchange with much and are expensive. Mike
I'd keep the coupe, theres a million old trucks out there, don't get me wrong I love old trucks but everybody wants a Model A.If you gotta have a runnin project now you can always find old trucks pretty cheap, maybe not a unibody but a driveable truck.
the coupe will ALWAYS be worth more than an old truck. and a hell of a lot cooler. don't let impatience screw you out of a much harder to find project. get a used s10 or ranger for $1000 if you need a driver.
