Detroit Autorama 2009 Roll Call, Meet & Greet, Hot Rod Mingle, & other useful info

The Detroit Autorama is March 6, 7, & 8, 2009.

We've always had Meet & Greets scheduled for each day of the Autorama because there has always been so many folks going on so many of the different days. This year will be no exception.

How does 3 pm each day, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the SingleFinger Speed Shop display on the lower level. 3pm gives everyone a chance to get back from lunch plus it's too early for folks to be leaving Cobo for dinner.

Larry, AKA: Safari-wagon and the SingleFinger Speed Shop have offered up their display for us HAMB folks to hang out in, meet, bench race, put you feet up or whatever. This will be downstairs, they've got 4 spaces against the right hand wall and will have 4 cars in the display. I will hang a HAMB meet & greet banner there if there is room. They have offered to have beverages and snacks. I'm not sure if they realize how many showed up last year. We really appreciate the hospitality.

Also, I guess this is as good a place as any to let everyone know that once again I will have a Saturday nite adult Hot Rod Mingle at my place in Livonia which is approx 15 miles from Cobo Hall.

Anytime after 7pm is fine. I'll have horse-doors and other kinds of snacks, jello shots and beverages but you guys will need to bring your own beer and/or liquor.

Tiki Lounge will be open and I will have a professional bartender mixing the drinks and yes, there will be HAMB crack.

I'll have invites with directions at Cobo as well but it's very, very easy to get to from Downtown to my place. The entrance to the freeway runs right along the side of Cobo Hall right by the ramp that you take to get inside or to the roof or to Cobo Joes.

There is a "People Mover" station in Cobo which goes around the city in a 2 1/2 mile loop. It's 50cents and worth it to ride just to see the view of the river, bridge, etc. One of the People Mover stops is Greektown which has some GREAT restaurants and casinos. The top of the GM RenCen has a great restaurant as well PLUS there is always a nice collection of GM cars in the lobby from the Heritage Center so stop there to check them out for free.

If you're into BBQ, Slo's BBQ on Michigan Ave right by the old Tiger Stadium. Not only great BBQ but the BEST mac & cheese I've ever had bar none.

There is a good burger place right across the side street from Cobo Hall called Cobo Joes. If you're in the lobby exit the doors on the left, thats Conrgess. Left on Congress and Cobo Joes is on the right hand side one block down. The Post Bar is right next door.

If you go out those same doors and go straight up Washington for two blocks and turn right on Lafeyette and down down two more blocks, there are two great coney island places on the left. I prefer Laeyette Coney Island but right next door is American Coney Island. Perfect for lunch.

Also, don't forget about the Pinstripers Jamboree. It's upstairs, kinda in the center but all the way in the back. LOTS of HAMB folks always striping there. Stop by, check it out and buy some artwork.

I think it is Single Finger, but I'll be there at least one day with the boys. Probably Friday so we don't get run over by everyone. I have a comp day coming and that may be when I use it!

As an FYI to many, there is a parking garage just next to the Ren Cen. It isn't killer to park, I paid $5 when I went to the NAIAS last month for several hours. You can walk through the Ren Cen to get to the People Mover AND they've switched the direction this year so it is only 2-3 stops and you are inside Cobo Hall. It is a cool view as well because you can see the upstairs display area as you ride through. Worth the $0.50 to cruise Detroit!

You can also run it from Cobo to Greektown and hit the casino as well as lots of great places to eat.

 

I DON'T do cookies, tho... You'll have to talk Denise into bringing them!

I go every year and I can't wait for this year. Being able to watch a few builds here on the HAMB and then seeing the finished product in person has added to the anticipation!

Thanks for the heads up info Denise. I'll be at Cobo on Saturday and plan to stay over at the Comfort Inn at your exit as in the past. My birthday is Saturday but you don't have to throw a party just for me.
