    Or three!

    A friend, and fellow HAMBer, wanted to go to some car show in Greensboro, NC last weekend. It was eh.. I picked up some plates for the '50 and thats about it. Entrance fee was 12 bucks but it was a Shriner show, so maybe the money will help a sick child. Anyway, on the way to the show I peeped a 30s era Sedan on a hill and thought about seeing it up close on the way back home. I would have forgotten about it but as luck has it the car was visible from a distance and I asked "Buff" if he wanted to stop and look around, if the owner was home. He had about five cars all facing the road like they were for sale. Now I'm getting off track a little but it all ties together here soon. :)

    So, we pull in, after I convince my buddy that we should turn around after about five miles. The ol' feller was outside and we asked if any of the cars were for sale. "All but one" he says, and then tells us to go up front and look around, he'll be up in a minute. After a quick look around I notice that all the cars are either Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth or DeSoto. So now I'm not into the cars as much anymore as most are obviously High Dollar rides, but maybe, just maybe the guy knows where I can get my hands on a '50s HEMI engine. :rolleyes:

    He shows us the cars, and they are beautiful. And then I drop the "H" bomb. I've struck out alot with this question and was bracing myself for the inevitable, but what the hell, you don't know until you ask. " You don't have any HEMIs for sale, like a 331 or Desoto 330 do ya?" I say.

    Nothing could have prepared me for what came next. If he would have laughed and pointed at me, I would have expected it. I was prepared to be thrown off his property for having asked such a stupid question on a Saturday. His reply was,,,,

    "Yup".:eek::D:eek:

    Reckon 1 of those would hold my old truck down in all this damned snow! They do take a lot of space, don't they!! Always thought would be nice to have to stack them. Ni-i-i-ce!

    Man, NEVER say that to a person, even in jest, you could really end up regretting it. Ask Waylon Jennings.
    Nice score on the Hemi's.

    And heres the rest of the story,

    After the "Yup," I regained my composure and asked if he would show us the engines. We had been there about 15 minutes in what would be 2 hours of cars and garages on what I would call his Mopar Estate. He showed us his '57 D100 Sweptside, '36? Chrysler Airflow Buisiness Coupe and Matching Numbers 66 or 67 GTX with the 426. He had 315s on engine stands and a 2X4 intake for one on the ground. Artillery wheels everywhere. Its all a blur now but I'll be back with a camera next time. He had a ton of Poly motors, the first gen ones, and smaller Desoto and Dodge Hemis.
