Powell Peralta Tony Hawk (bones brigade anyone?) and a Mongoose Expert I believe by 1989. I had an epiphany with a car buddy friend of mine I've been running with for 23 years: our BMX bikes were our first hotrods. We tore them down and rebuilt them, adding high performance aftermarket parts or better (perceived) OE parts off of different bikes to make them better suited to the task of cruising our neighborhood and bunnyhopping every curbcut in sight. We removed reflectors and chain guards, front breaks... anything to make them lighter.

20 years ago it was pretty much the same toys I am driving today. My 86 Mustang, the 34 Ford 5 window, a 58 Willy wagon with a chevy in it and a Harley Sportster. the last two are down the road but I have a few more treasures to finish. I better get to work.

  15. No photos.
1966 Impalla, beige over Met. Tan, 327ci, A great car. It was mint when my brother sold it to me for $400.00 but it had a bad habbit of attracting large dents while setting
innocently in parking lots. It made the trip to California, fully loaded, with a patched up frame where the left control arm bracket rusted through and broke free while I was driving it to my mechanic for a final once over before the trip.
    BIG THUD!
    Car stopped!
Okay, mint from the floor boards up.
The '82 Champ was my wife's car; our first joint purchase. Talk about a great little car.
The duel mode shifter was a blast. 38 mpg makes me wish I'd kept it around.

In 1989 I was driving a '64 Chevelle station wagon that my Mom bought new. My son was so embarrased of the car I had to pick him up 2 blocks away from High School. He told a kid who saw in it it was my "fishing car" his friend said "that's allright, my Moms car is the city bus". I put 250,000 miles on that car before I sold it to pay for the engine for my 40 Ford.

Hell, 20 minutes ago I was still playing with my Hotwheels! :D

But 20 years ago I was driving a 1969 El Camino that nobody liked because I didn't do the "muscle car" thing with it. It had shaved door handles, a frenched antenna, MOON discs and all the switches were removed from the dash and put into a custom center console. The dash was smoothed, upholstered and had a black plexi-glass panel to cover the instruments.

And I was starting to build my chopped 1974 Datsun pickup.

My daily was a `79 F100 w/ a 300 six & 3-on-the-tree. My cruiser/project was a `60 chevy, sedan delivery. I bought it from a "Cholo" it was way lowered, spokes, primer, 235, 3spd, w/ a genuine mexican blanket seat cover. I sold the 13's and put a set of alum slots w/ white letter tires. I had big plans w/ a high-po 427+ M-22 (which I still have). I painted the dash & doorjambs plumcrazy & fridge white and bought a bunch of impala chrome & stainless.
Unfortunately, I moved to a resort area and had no place to store it! No problem my buddy George had a empty cement pad next to his garage. I parked it and about a month later his wife starts giving him shit about it and wants it gone. It weas on a busy street and people would stop by all of the time and leave their #'s wanting to buy it. Everytime I saw her she was on my ass to sell it and few months later they got seperated. She gave me a week to move it so I called and sold it to the guy w/ the most cash, which wasn't a lot, but more than I had into it. One of the two "that got away", I should have paid to store it until I had my own place for it...Oh well.
