What were you driving 20 years ago?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by nmbuellist, Feb 11, 2009.

  1. Well since there seems to be some uncertainty about WHICH 20 years ago you mean, I'll do it this way:

2008 - '87 TBird Turbo Coupe, and my '05 Tundra
    1998 - '98 F150 pickup, and my '87 T'Coupe
    1988 - '88 Ranger 4x4
    1978 - '78 Fairmont wagon (I know, but I had 2 little kiddies...)
    1968 - '60 Ford fullsize, and a '56 Fairlane
1958 - not drivin' but ridin' on the seat of Dad's '57 F100

Fords in my past, Fords in my future, must be an addiction!

20 years ago I was driving a '34 Plymouth coupe - it looks pretty much the same today as it did then - minus the intake. Haven't driven it much at all - last few years - I really got to fix that!!

The daily was an 80 Ford F-150 with a 500ci Cad motor. The toy was a 48 Continental Cabriolet with a 390 Cad motor (common conversion), my other daily was a 70 454 Chevlle SS with N2O.

Then I sold the Continental and bought a 68 GT500KR fastback with a 4spd, sold that for a profit and got a 47 Cad convertible. Hey wait a min...I see a pattern here.

20 yrs.ago..my daily rides were my 64 Riviera, which I still have, it was silver, painted it black on black leather interior I had done..it was ordered with all the Gran Sport options before there was a badged GS..I built the 425 30 over with a bunch of Kenne-Bell parts..$600 worth of chrome engine stuff which went a long ways then..It was lowered a bit with a good stereo..also a 57 Nomad with the original 283 warmed up a bit, painted 57 Adobe biege with an original design black and white interior, sold that car at Pate..then I was ridin my smoke silver BMW R90S, still kicking myself for selling that one...

I had a Santa Cruz Christian Hosoi deck with Tracker Trucks and Bam Bam wheels. It was so sweet I babied it and only thrashed on my Ripsaw. That and I had a Mongoose bmx that I loved. It was surf green. I was 8.

Not sure what the daily go to work car was, I had a batch of them about that time.
The 48 had been apart for about three or four years and the 51 Merc was in the middle of a redo that never got done.
Summer of 89 I did a three week thrash to put the 48 back together to go to the Kustom Kemps run in Centralia that year. So for a hot rod we will have to say the 48.

  29. I was driving a '89 LX like this. LX 5 spd. Sleeper
but the Shelby was a basket case at this point. Finished it in 2004.

A hot rod was always on my mind so I could be in Back to the 50's.
Got it in 2004 after selling the Shelby.

I was driving my '50 Chevy Panel Truck. I found it in a field, four flats, no brakes. Fixed it up, put a 235 in it, drove it all over from WA to AZ, NM, MT, CA, never had any trouble with it. Drove it for 18 years and sold it to a friend.

Driving a '65 Austin Mini Woody Wagon now. It's for sale. See "Cars For Sale" on the HAMB. Got the hots for a '55 Popular.
