I've been in nearly every make of US car (and a few foreign jobs) and I can tell you I've never seen a wheel like that. Very unique, for sure - obviously from the post WWII period

If you didn't know- I can tell you what car it's in, since I have the same few Quonset hut pics on my HD : Woodill Wildfire

  10. Looks kind of like a '56 hudson/Nash wheel, but without those holes in the spokes. Cool wheel, whatever it's from!

I know it's out of a Wildfire. But I was also told it's not stock for that car. The Wildfire is a kit car and the wheel didn't come with the kit. What could the donor car be?

I don't know what the steering column is. The donor cars could have been anything,(and they were) as long as the wheel base was the same. And even then you could shorten a frame to make it fit.

  15. Don't know about the wheel but are those Talbot mirrors ?? >>>>.

I'm having a block here, but I do remember reading some factory lit--or a Popular Mechanics type road test--that mentioned the 360 degree horn ring as a new feature for whatever it was that year. Lincoln? It's pretty George Jetson looking. And kind of bombsight looking. Maybe space-age Chysler product.

such a rad idea having the spokes face the other way..a real "why didnt i think of that" moment...

You're right , "why didn't I think of that" moment exactly. It looks so space-age, like it came from a 50's Harley Earl Motorama showcar. Or a Muntz Jet??

  23. I think lowfat nailed it. I was also thinking the boat route until I saw the shape of the spokes.

Lowfat's really close but if you compare details one couldn't have been made from the other, they're just too different. Someone mentioned the side mirror source, what does the wheel from that car look like???

I think they have replaced the 3 "wings" with solid pcs. drilled them and replaced the horn ring , the buick wheel had 3, 3/8" round bars behind the original horn ring ,they also would have had to mill the wings off the center bullet , if that is what it is , it would be very expensive to duplicate

the horn ring is definitely not 49-51 lincoln. the areas of the ring at the spokes would have a u-shaped segment to wrap around the backside of the spoke. this is a lincoln wheel i sold on e-pay last year

Look closer at the scale of the bullets and you'll see the wheel in question has a larger, less tapered bullet. They're real close but just couldn't be the same.

To me it looks like a wheel that would have appeared on a GM one off show car. It looks like the wheel that the OTHER GM wheels were designed FROM, rather than a wheel that was modified from a stock wheel.

I like the boat theory. Note how the spokes appear to bolt on to the rim and have a little trim cover at the outer edge? Looks a lot like what might happen if a boat or aftermarket company wanted to have one expensive injection mold for the rim and multiple designs for the spokes & hub.

A freakin cool looking wheel but somewhat out of place where it currently resides.
