do you have to have some site host them first or can it be done right off your PC? i post a lot on pelican parts porsche tech forum and my pics always post large, never thumbnails. same basic vbulletin format as here. thanks in advance.

After you upload the photo, click and copy the URL that you are given for that thumbnail. Then you can click on insert image at the top of the edit screen and past the URL into that window.

In the manage attachments window, it shows up under the upload files window after the files are uploaded. If you have closed that window, it is still available in the Advanced Edit window, in the Additional Options menu under the text field.

Then, right above the edit text window, there is a square yellow icon, between the envelope icon and the cartoon word bubble icon. As you mouse over that it will say insert image. In Advanced Edit it's the 14th icon from the left.

i see that. now where do you get the url for your image that you pull from your document/picture files? can you get it ONLY by putting your pics on photobucket or some other site? is it possible straight from your PC? just trying to save time on all that back and forth crap.

I'm wishing I could wave my hands in the air and point at the screen. Here's a pic - look at the upper left and lower right areas.

EDIT - Boy that's messy. See the two IMG_1305(Medium).jpg links? Right click on either one of them and choose copy link location.

You have to upload it somewhere. HAMB allows you to upload it directly here, that's where the thumbnail comes from, but then you have to insert a link to it into your post if you want it to show up full size.

Uploaded pics to the forum which are turned into thumbnails are better, in a couple of ways,
    - first, they don't screw up the screenwidth of the forum when pics are too wide. (Not everyone has 20" screens in front of them.)
    - secondly, pics uploaded to the forum itself will always stay online, as opposed to people using their own Photobucket, in which they can decide one day to clean up their old stuff in their account and thereby deleting a lot of pics that are still linked into topics on this forum. Leaving annoying broken images in older topics.

As for the original poster asking how to post fullsize pics,
Posting forum-uploaded pics as fullsize in a topic costs a lot of bandwidth if a lot of people view the topic.
So the thumbnails are the better solution, in more than one way.
