Thought I'd share shots of JIM MAYBERRY'S car I finished just before Christmas. Off to the upholsterer!
I picked a cool gold color from a bunch of generic chips then added a BUNCH of gold pearl to it. It really pops in the sun! I have the formula if anybody wants.
Why, funny you should ask... The car was an e-bay purchase. Someone took a 31 fordor, cut off the top, reversed the bustle and made an unliftable steel top. They used a 63? ford dash and stitch welded everything! Bondo, then flat black. It LOOKED GREAT but was absolute junk. Jim wanted that, but a nice car. JOHNNY MORRIS built a new frame, installed the flattie etc. I ended up throwing away about 2/3 of the body and starting from scratch. I made a firewall, dash with the original for inspiration, made new doors 5" longer patch panels for the lower 8", then fabbed the rocker panels to hide the UN channeled frame. new inner wheel wells, door jambs and on and on. 32 cowl vent, and hinges. I used 11 gallons of bondo on the top to make a nice plug then had a glass top made. I've made enough glass parts to know I didn't wanna do that ! Here's some befores...
The Johnny Morris I know from Dayton would have grey hair by now, and was doing clean "nostalgia" hot rods, even in the late- eighties/early nineties. Not the same guy is it?? BTW- beautiful work! *His family was all from East Dayton, but he lived in the Beavercreek/Fairborn area.
I just ran across a March 2010 issue of Hotrod that featured this car. I found the pictures of it in your album Scott, but are there any other pictures of the build you're able to post. Nice work...
