Got an early 70's sbc recently for a rebuild. Bought a th350 tranny to mate, but see the torque converter has 3 bolt flanges on it and the flex-plate has 6. Measured the distance between the 3 bolt holes and is in no way going to work! Around 9 3/8" or so.
Man I'm used to much older motors so tell me, since the flex plate is the cheaper of the two, where do I look for one to use?
Bare with me if this is an ignorant question please.

Should bolt up, rotate it & see if they align.I think all flywheels are 6 bolt for this reason.

Jimv is correct - it will bolt up and the bolt distances are purposeful - balance and all that rot.

Chevy flexplates all have 6 holes , 3 each on two different size circles, usually 3 are round and 3 are oval.

  6. My 454 uses an externally balanced 6 hole flexplate. The converter has 6 threaded blocks.
