I found this site about 4 years ago when I googled rat rod/hot rod. After reading for 15 minutes, I reconsidered joining until I finished my anger management classes. I want to know the value of the stuff I buy and collect and any other info I can learn that is related to my love of stuff. The search feature on this site is incredible, but I still like to ask questions, give answers, tell and read jokes and generally keep up with what is going on in the world. This winters weather has had me on the computer till I fall asleep[about every 45 minutes] more than normal.

I was stumbling on line looking for paint and interior ideas and fell on the site. This is a good place to get rid of metal trip hazards.

Found it through word of mouth. It took me a while to find it because I thought everybody was saying "HAMP".The second I found it I knew I was in the right place, and signed up immediatly. At first I was just here for parts, but soon I started asking technical questions. Then I started thumbing through threads, and reading about all kinds of stuff I previousy and no knowledge of, and shooting the shit here and threre. Now I'm hooked. Got a job where I just sit there and wait for people to come in to buy appliance parts (not many people do), so I got all day to sit here and read cool stories, ogle people's cars, and look for parts. I can't remember how I got along before I found this place.

As for the are you staying question, Yes. I'm not going anywhere. Theres too much information to be had, and too many stories, parts, pictures, and good folks (mostly).

I read a lot of car mags and caught some info in some of them. Found the site and lurked for awhile, signed on and dug into archives. I keep finding more stuff and lot of it relates to what I have now or had back when. Or what I want next. I am hooked.

I found the site while surfing the net and getting info for my project when I bought it about 5 years ago. Just sort of browsed the site until I actually started on it, Then I joined in on the fun. I'll be staying for sure. I have posted a few threads and I can't believe how quick the responses come in. This site has been a huge help to me. :D

A Google search for Traditional Hot Rods turned up the HAMB. Great bunch of Hoodlum types on here, and lots of interesting threads will keep me around.

On the "...are you here to stay..." part of the topic, yes indeed. I'm slowly spending less time here and more in the shop and home garage. How fucked up is it that I almost feel, uh, guilty for not checkin more?

Completely stumbled across it on a Google search for some obscure, barely related topic. I was completely board at work and searching around to waste time. Never thought of or really saw/knew what a traditional hotrod was before that day.

3 workdays later, I was still going through old posts. 5 years later, I have a barn full of parts, a 30 coupe body, a Stewart Warner fetish that boarders on addiction, and hundreds of hours spent going over this site absorbing. My wife would divorce me if she really knew how obsessed I've become...

There isn't a day that goes by I don't look it over. It really was life changing!!!!

Heard about HAMB from internet friend on OT forum.
Was into early iron during early '60s,
and still have R&C, HR, PHR issues from that era.
Morphed to Muscle Cars and road racing during late '60s thru mid '90s,
and still have '69 Camaro that I bought new in '69.
Morphed to vintage Italian cars since then.
So...I don't play with trad stuff,
but throughly enjoy the supreme tech and history found on HAMB.
There are alot of talented people here.

Found the HAMB while unemployed and surfing for tech help a few years back...Lurked for a year or two before joining. Finally signed in after the mechanic at the shop down the street and I started talking about our cars and realized we were both familiar with the site.

Still not posting too often unless I can speak through experience... Although I've been around real steel since I was a wee lad... I respect the depths of knowledge from the users throughout this site and I'm grown enough to know it's not ALWAYS neccesary to chime in.

I'll be here as long as the blood in my veins runs warm...

In an old Mad Fabricators Society DVD, Bob Bleed was giving Johnny Cola some advice about getting to know something about "real" hot rods before diving into the restoration of his Dad's roadster. Among other things, Bob suggested that Johnny "join the HAMB". I had no idea what he meant at the time.

But after watching the video a number of times, I figured, nothing ventured, nothing gained...so after a while I took a quick look, but didn't get past the Jalopy Journal part of the site. Big mistake...it's good, but the meat of HAMB is in the message board itself.

Took me a couple of years to go back (and they say I'm a slow learner...?) and really explore the site. Now, I'm hooked!

The amount of technical information available is incredible, as is the exchange of ideas and readily available examples of just about every modification a person can make to his car. Rikster's photo site is wonderful to re-energize when my projects lag.

But most of all, I like the low-buck traditional approach that HAMBers have to building hot rods and custom cars. I'm an old coot and thought that the ways by which we built cars when I was a pup were lost forever, but it's alive and well here on the HAMB!

Needless to say, my FNG status didn't last long. I'm proud to be an Alliance Member now!

I was looking for ideas on some things in my garage. I started reading Garage Junkies. Then, Garage Junkies was taken over by the same folks that have the HAMB. So, I started reading it just because. I've always been a hot rod kind of guy (although some people would never know it to look at me). I read and lurked on an off for a long time (and still do fade in and out). Finally decided to join back over the summer.

I'll probably get more involved and post more when I can honestly start working on my 30 Sport Coupe (i.e. after I get rid of the drain on my finances that doubles as real estate).

Short term memory is the first thing to go in us old farts. I am like a Christmas goose - I wake up in a new world every day. I can't fuckin remember how I found it. It might have been a link in one of the car magazines I have been buying for the past 50+ years.

I learned of the HAMB via a car show. There was a "HAMB Meet & Greet" set up and I was like, "WTF is going on here?" ... google'd it once I got home and was amazed at what I found. There really is more ppl like me out there lol. Still no clue what "FNG" means tho???

Hotrod sites, kar kulture sits, rockabilly and music sites all seemed to lead to the HAMB when I first checked it out. Turns out to the be best rod site I have found to date and was glad to join. I check out a couple of site dedicated to the types of cars I have and this site provides far more info than they do for whatevfer reason.

FNG is fu----- new guy. When do I become a grenade inspector?

  25. To answer the most important question: YES, I plan on staying for quite some time.

The reason why leads into how I found this place. I found it because I went looking for a board where EVERYBODY, not just a select few people, shared the same passion for the old stuff that I did. Where people actually DO things, not just talk about them. The other car forums I belong to are all shadows of their former selves: the discussion has shifted towards the texture of interior plastics, the quality of service department coffee, and other such mindless bullshit. Couldn't take it anymore, and don't check in nearly as much.

The level of skill and knowledge I see here is another large part of what brought me here. I've been around old iron nearly my entire life, helping my father restore a half-dozen antique vehicles ranging from Chevrolet trucks to pre-war Packards; I've owned a dozen antique vehicles myself, and watched my great uncle, who was a semi-famous race car driver here in New England almost every weekend with my father as a young kid, and feel like I don't know even 5% of what the people here do. I'm eager to learn, and feel like the people here generally have a "we're in this together" attitude: if someone doesn't know how to do something, they open it up for discussion and others here will help steer them in the right direction. I like that.

Told about the HAMB an age ago, lurked for a while before joining.....

suits my ideals and taste in rods and customs, I have learned at lot and you have my thanks.

While some of us are new to the HAMB, we ain't new to rodding, I for one will still be doing the same thing when the 'discovery channel rodders' have moved onto the next trend.
