If you were a hot rodder and could live anywhere in Tennessee what town would it be?

Not to big of a town...

While it may not be Tennessee it is only about 25 miles from its border. Take a close look at Bowling Green, Kentucky. You will like what you see.

 

Pick a place, they are all great, but I am kind of partial to East TN. Close to the Smokies and lots of hot rodders.

 

Can't go wrong in Nashvegas. Houses are still affordable in the area too.

 

Middle TN is pretty nice.I've lived in most of the bigger areas of TN.
Knoxville,nashville are nice.Memphis has gone way down.

I'm also looking to move to Tennessee. I just retire and want to move futher south. I'll be going down there the second week and hope to find a lot to start building a shop (got to have that first!!!). So I'm also interested in your post.

 

There are a lot of nice places in TN, but in my opinion, Knoxville tops them all. Lots of car folks, close to the Smokys. Just a great place.

Can't tell that I'm partial can ya? ;-)

 

The Tri-Cities in northeast TN is nice. The Johnson City, Bristol, Kingsport area. Decent car scene and cruise-ins during the summer months.

 

Maryville home to the Greazy Hubcapz cc. any of the east TN is great

 

I would not recommend Memphis. There is alot of hot rod history there, but the town is terrible. I lived there for four years and had three traffic accidents. Each time the person who hit me bailed out and ran. I was only able catch one of them, and of course he had no insurance, stolen car, etc.. The rest of the state is beautiful.

 

nothing to do in clarksville. Next to no car scene what so every. I've seen maybe 4 hotrods in 3 years of living here.

Come checkout middle Tennessee. We live 30 min north of Nashville,40 min to Bowling Green Ky(Beach Bend Raceway). Lots of car guys. Cruise ins, Goodguys, Hot rod Reunion and tons of back roads to cruise.

 

I'm from Indiana but Maryville (betwixt Knoxville and the Smokies) would probably be a great place to live. One of the towns north of Knoxville might be nice too. I love the big hotrod weekends in Pigeon Forge. Someplace just outside of or on the edge of that town would be fun.

 

Check out Lexington. I was just there last week on business and it was very cool. Good people, big lake and a drag strip near by.

 

Jackson would be good for West TN growing like crazy. Somewhat over 100,000 in population in city limits.Would not go to Memphis. If a city was chosen it would definitely be Nashville ... almost in the middle of state, 3 interstates going through to get ya anywhere you wanted to go. Lots of little suberbs around there too. Great State you will never regret it!

Middle TN - as long as you are not in Niota, you're fine. Move to Niota if you like large hail and tornado style weather. The jet stream runs through Niota and apparently has a score to settle with it.

Upper TN - close to Bowling Green as stated before by others. Good spot.

 

I live just east of Nashville (about 20 miles) Nashville is full of hot rodders. There are cruise-ins and car shows every week end in the summer and not real far from Beech Bend raceway in Bowling Green where they have alot of real cool events like the Hot Rod Reunion and such. Cant go wrong here!

My wife's people live in Newport,Tn not real crowded there, even has it's own old style Drag Strip. Just 40 miles from Knoxville,25 minutes from Pigeon Forge and 83 miles to go to Thunder Valley racing complex.

 

i wish i could make it to Pigeon Forge in 25 min lol and i live 12 miles closer. you gotta get them to show me the short cut there's a really good hotrod scene in Newport

 

Come down to East Tennessee. Area called the Tri-Cities. Small town atmosphere, beautiful scenery, car stuff everywhere.

 

I'll echo the praise for the Tri-Cities area. Small town attitude with big city amenities. Real estate is cheap, taxes are low, traffic is non-existent. There are plenty of cruise-ins and car shows all summer long. Lots of race tracks, some of the most beautiful scenery and best driving roads in the country.

Easy drive to Goodguys at Nashville, Charlotte, and Bowling Green, NSRA in Knoxville, Shades of the Past in Pigeon Forge.

Lots of hot rodders and HAMBers around.

We moved here from SoCal three years ago and wouldn't think of going back!

 

First memphis is not tennessee, its like having incest with a cousin it is kind of dirty and a little gross but something just a little intriguing. Secondly, tennessee has enough retirees from Michigan and Ohio, maybe you should try Georgia or South Carolina, they are both nice places. I live in the middle of nowhere on a dead end road and all of my neighbors are from detroit or toledo, who would have thought. Now i am just kidding, kind of. I love where i live, i have been all over america several times, and i live in the most beautiful, friendly area. I would not want to live anywhere else, Cookeville is where the mountains of east tennessee start, good car scene and the cost of living is next to nothing. For this reason a lot of people from other places want to live here. That is good and bad. I farm/weld for a living, you cant buy a farm here anymore, that's bad, the property i have is worth more, that's good. I am all for border patrol and closing the border, but i refer to the border between TN and KY i think that is truly the one worth watching. I type this mostly as a joke, but with every joke comes a little truth. Tennessee is great, anywhere east of Jackson and you cant go wrong, good luck if you move anywhere near cookeville or surrounding areas, or need help finding a piece of property let me know, my wife owns a bakery and we will send out the welcome wagon.

I would also recommend Knoxville area, beautiful area, lots of Hot Rodders.

 

Here's some car scene info published by Sumner County AACA last year. Not all events are in TN but definitely within driving distance. As the guys above stated, stick with Middle and East TN. I've lived in TN my whole life in different areas. Depending on what ammenities you're looking for aside from the car scene, there are alot of nice big towns and small towns that people lovingly call home and will never leave. Although I'm partial to the Nashville area (it's not a city but a big small town with city tastes), the Maryville/Tellico areas are very centralized with the car scene, close to metropolitan areas, close to rural country, and close to the mountains and lakes that provide some of the most beautiful scenery to wake up to every day that a person could ask.
