Always hated shortening in the middle, but shortening the overhang
    sometimes works.

I bet if a lot of those guys that shortened the tri five 4 door sedans back then, had realized they could have just scooted the middle door post back and filled in the quarter to make a regular looking two door sedan they would have..................on second thought maybe not considering the era and plenty of tri five chevys around to hack on:(
I would bet that most guys/gals today would choose that conversion over the shorty look;)
    Today I personaly would rather have a 4 door than a shorty:cool:

Hopefully mine will look less "like shit" when it's done. It's okay if it doesn't though, it's not for everyone...

  12. Friend & I cut back doors out of a perfectly good 55 wagon, summer '69.

It was an orange dune buggy, radiused wheelwells, dual rear tires.

Cruised Pismo Beach, CA in 1970-71. Fun wheelie machine.
    Sold in Bakersfield early '72.

The 55-57's were a lot easier to do with the straight frame rails. we did a 59 Chevy Wagon years ago. A lot of work to get the hourglass frame right it and get the front and back doors right with the fin starting in the middle. It was pretty wild looking and a handful to drive. Wish I still had it --would have made a sick altered as a track car

  16. Shorten it about four more feet until the windshield glass meets the back window and it'll be a Cadillac bubble top. :D

Holy crap that actually has potential. Section it 4" and you have a mini-cad.

There are brand new steel 55-57 Chevy 2 door post doors availible to buy, and that's all you really need to convert a 4 door sedan into a 2 door sedan, therefore there is absolutely no need to cut up anymore tri-5's into clown cars.

Although I gotta admit, Nitrid's Caddy does look kinda awesome cut down like that. I might have to play with a couple other pictures to see what can be made.

I think one of the problems is people cut too much length out, enough to eliminate a whole rear door when really only a foot or less is necessary for the desired results.

this is what i started with...
For somereason I almost want to do this to my car. although i'd have no idea where to begin. I'm gonna start redoing this car in a week or 2. It's getting air ride, paint, losing some trim etc..

  20. I was browsing through a circa-1960 Car Craft the other day and someone did this with a '56 Pontiac convertible, too - shortened and sectioned. Called it the "Papoose" .. although it looked more like just poop. Well, actually it looked mostly like a pedal car, with a too-big windshield screwing up the proportions.

I see a 57 Chevy wagon here on L.I., it's at every car show with a for sale sign on it... probably still not sold.
