Also while on the subject of filling tops, for those of you who filled an A, did you leave the wood in or replace it with steel supports? I ask this because my wood is all missing and I'm trying to make up my mind if I want to put it back or just use steel tubing

My wood is still pretty good, but I'm replacing it with square tubing. Did that to a buddy's 31 last year and it worked out great.

I used a 84 Aerostar roof insert turned backwards. I had to use flat steel to continue the lines and blend into the visor. One for looks and the second was for structure to the flimsy visor.

On the Hambandy build we used a 63 Dodge roof. Has very interesting lines and was easy to install.

I bent up some 3/4 square tubing for my chevy. I then outlined the opening with the tubing. then added the cross bars, that I had bent so that they matched each other. The curve of the cross bars will hold the roof panel to a curve. And give me a place to glue the center down, and just weld the outer edge...ghost

  12. DO NOT Glue the center down! When finished you will see where it was glued when the temp changes, a cloud comes over, you pull into or out of the shade!

I was told the same thing But I had tacked the roof to the steel tubing cross supports:( I had to grind the tacks and I inserted some thin insulation between the roof and the cross tubes. No rattle or any other problem:)

Tman. thanks I did'nt think about the temp change, I can see how that could be a problem. After your comment about not using glue I remembered the material used between the roof bows, and roof. On older cars to control vibratiion was more like an upholstery padding thanks again ...ghost

I used a 1968 suburban roof turned around 180 deg,no ribs ,easy to fit.The scrap yard charged me about $120 and they cut the roof off and gave me the suburban roof spars which I cut down and used on the sedan roof.
