Im looking to build a sbc
im going to start with a small journal 327
    i want to buy a aftermarket crank,pistons,etc
I keep seeing 5.7'' and 6.0'' small journal rods and pistons with different wristpin locations with 4.030 bore.
Im tired of looking.....so does anyone have a link to a website(s) that has a graph or something with all the sbc rod/wristpin/stroke options.
I remember in the older PERFORMANCE AUTOMOTIVE WHERHOUSE
catalogs(the big 3'' thick books) there was a diagram, but i can't find it online.
    thanks

I was just working this out today. Here's the math.

Deck height (9.00-9.025 is typical) minus half of stroke (3.25 on 327 c.i.), minus rod length (5.7 stock), minus desired deck clearance (say .010") = piston compression height (1.665 in this case).

If you add .300 to the rod, take it from the piston to keep all else equal.

Now I'll look in a catalog to see how close I am.

Hey, right there. 1.678, that's .013 off my mark with .010 deck clearance.

Read it carefully. Then spend some time with all the diagrams. It will teach you how to calculate your own needs. When you deviate from stock, the large margins used by the factory design get taken out. You will need several accurate measurements off your parts, especially if the engine has been machined again.
