157 in my Honda Prelude, 18 minutes from Clarksville, TN to downtown Nashville! 140 or so with the front tires lit up in my buddies CRX! Were told it looked like a Pro Mod burnout when we passed another buddies twin turbo Mustang.
155 in a '73 Nova with a couple of friends in college. Speedo buried @125, but had a friend in a 911 turbo clocking me. Pushed the pedal through the carpet for about 6 miles. Car was floating like crazy. Very stupid thing to do, but heh?
In my own cars 150-160 regularly as I work out in Germany pretty often, officer......(My alfa 164 V6 is geared for 22mph per 1000rpm and will pull 7250 in top, the saab stationwagon is a bit slower top end but quicker getting there). In test cars 171mph in a Corvette C6 somewhere in rural England (top up and down for verification purposes-lol), 192mph in an Audi RS2 estate (stationwagon) on the Autobahnen-it was "tweaked" a bit and spat 5 foot flames on the overrun- it was good for 215mph according to other magazine tests. Seen over 200mph on a race track (roundy roundy type track), but that was in a race prepped TVR with le mans gearing. I went 145mph last night coming home from Milton Keynes to Essex, allegedly . Its not speed that kills, just the inappropriate use of it. Lmao. even the lincoln does 90+ regularly (well when being used).
140mph in my '72 GTO - I-95 in Jersey. Stupid, but very stable at that speed! 160mph in a 2000 Jaguar S-Type on the track at the factory in England.
Never over the speed limit on public highways, no really. 152 in my Miata on the salt (99 inches of fury! hahahahaha) 148.8 at the Nebraska mile (in a ford)
Coming out of Bonneville from our pits I pushed my SRT10 Dodge pickup to 155 MPH and change. It was moving all over the place. It had a little more but I wasn't going there.--TV
This certainly is an interesting thread.........................looks like a lot of people have cheated death.............one more time. Was in the Silver States Classic in my 97 Mustang Cobra. This is a 90 mile open road race and the longest straight away is 14 miles. Did a clocked speed in 4th gear of 148.6mph. The speedo was reading somewhere over 155mph. It was a great feeling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the early 90's I was doing business in Europe, rented a 3 series BMW. Driving on the Autobaun at 125mph.............those sneaky rental people had a governer on the car, at 125mph it just "layed over", kind of like the governer on my SHO Taurus. One thing interesting about driving for miles at that speed is that after awhile it doesn't really feel like you are going that fast................but when you have to slow down for traffic ahead of you it feels like you could open the door and run faster than the car is going............at least that's how if feels to me. SHO Taurus did 150+ by the speedo on a long stretch of road on I5 just north of Sutherland, OR. Had a 5.0l Merc Capri in 86, did 145mph on I5 somewhere south of Longview, WA when coming back from Seattle late one night. Was a passanger in one of Flying Lizard Motorsports GT2 Porches at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA (they were doing test and tune in 2007). We were doing about 150mph coming into turn one..............on the back stretch did close to 180mph..........................that is very fast. http://www.lizardms.com/index.htm All of the above are speedo readings, except the radar clocking on the Cobra. I love speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fast enough that the "Wind" was making it hard to hold the controls on a hard tail Shovelhead. Used to drive my V8 S-10 using the Tach (Stripped speedo gear). Fast enough to go to jail if caught. All calculations based on 3.42 gears...Turns out it had 3.08's An S truck that needs V rated tires. I should put in a cage and take it up to Maxton. Fastest sensation of speed...85mph in a VW Bug. I had to laugh so I wouldn't cry. At 44, I would love to get my Bonneville license and see what real speed feels like. If I ever catch my nephew attempting to do anything like I did, he will be grounded until he is 50.
It was only 142 or 143 .....................but It was on the interstate............but thats when i was younger and NOT very smart.........
Ive been 0 to 143 MPH in 9.4 with no NOS in the 1/4 mile . Had spray didnt use it I was SkArEd LOL . Next owner of my 57 went 8.30's 160 MPH in the 1/4 mile . My friend had a Kaw that went 8.20 @ 160 in the 1/4 that I helped tune .
130 needle bouncing the speedo in a car 178 highway, passing a moving police car on my old R1 motorcycle only thing I could do was click 6th, and twist the throttle I know I went faster, but as I passed the cop, I looked down to decide if I should stop or not.... @ 178... NOT
Since I last posted here, a fresh engine in the old car has raised the bar from 127 (at the strip) to 140MPH (on salt). Can't wait to get it back to the strip this spring with the new combo! This is my street car...
did 55 MPH on my bicycle on Polomares road in Castro Valley. that was when I was young and dumb. the bike I got now would prooly do 65 with the same effort but I am old and smart now.
Had the 37 up to 130 had to back out of it the front end was lifting from air getting under fenders, was scary. My old 65 Vette was up to 140 before I lifted up on pedal.
Neat thread. Fastest I've ever been was 155 in a late 80's Vette. Pop's had just tuned the car up that was previously running like shit. He looked over and said let's go for a test drive. Headed out to Brownsburg via 74. Brought the car up to 100 pretty easily and kinda felt the car out. Made a Uturn at the brownsburg exit and as we headed down the exit ramp, pop's said hang on. Matted it coming off the exit ramp and I just remember watching in amazement as the cough "digital speedo" (this was the 80's ok) kept climbing. 120, 125, 135, 140, etc... The car had a groud effects kit and let me tell you at that speed, you could feel the car squat down. Damnest thing I had ever felt. I saw the 155 on the speedo and pop's noticed I was wathcing eagerly and he just had a shit eating grin on his face and said he still had more pedal.
Well, I came off the Northview hill out of Springfield MO in my '56 Stude Golden Hawk back in '58 and did 140 downhill. I have a hard time believing some of these speeds posted here .. but what the hell .. bs is bs .. lol !! I had my '56 Ford up to 90 the other day and it sounded like the motor was about to jump out of it. Oh and the thread is "fastest I've ever been" Well that is a whole other story. After all I was flying a business jet until I retired.
Only 125 back in '79 in my '67 Mercury Caliente. Felt like I was flying! The steering was floating all over the place. It was some scary shit at 16! I wouldn't be stupid enough to do that now without a better suspension and maybe seat belts.
Mid 70's I was driving a 1970 SS 396 Chevelle on I-44 and decided to see what it would do. The speedometer went past 120, the car felt like it was starting to float and the wife was complaing about the speed. I would guess it was running 130, but it was still picking up speed when I let off. The next day I had a broken valve spring.
125 in my dad's '56 Studebaker Golden Hawk w/ 352 Packard V8 115 in my Hot Tub phaeton - 302 Ford power 160.7 in my friend's RED
