I had some magnesium valve covers TIG welded once - that was before I had a TIG.

I know it can be welded, When you hear about a mag fire it was in chip form, like after machining or grinding.

  7. I had some unsuccessful tries on some wheels I had a while back. After talking to several people about it, I was told the wheels needs to be pre-heated, and welded in a vacuum chamber similar to a sandblast cabinet where you stick your hands in the gloves to weld it. AND, it needs to return to room temp very slowly. That's what I heard

Pre-heat---tig weld with mag rod---post heat to keep from cracking, let cool down slow.

Nothing will ignite if there's no oxygen. Keep the oxygen away, and you could weld magnesium all day.
