It should say "Not so secret private junkyard" tour. I wont ruin your "Secret" but anyone living in the Kearney/Gibbon area that is in to cars knows of this place. Lots of good stuff has up and "run off" there, being right next to the road and all. About 2 years ago there was a nice 28 Dodge brothers sedan right next to the road, also a cherry New Yorker with the Hemi in it, both got legs and walked off.

That's a cute way to say stolen.

There's a guy in my hometown that has a collection of old stuff, all Chevys, he doesn't want to sell anything either. He's got a '53 Chevy convertible taken apart in his garage up on 55 gallon drums, he started on it in 1973 and hasn't touched it since. He won't let anything get crushed though, he loves all that shit, even if he doesn't ever work on it. He'll donate it to his car club or auction it off eventually.

Gotta have hoarders or there will be nothing left for the future.

  10. Seeing that downed tree over behind the '56 Lincoln and the '50 or so Packard, I shudder to think what that tree might have landed on top of.

There is nothing better than an old yard. I think if all those cars could talk they would like nothing better than to come back to life or donate to another car's cause...

I love salvage porn in the morning. Thanks for the pics.

  15. My dad brought truck loads of great stuff back from northern Kansas back in the late 80's. Most of the stuff was "not for sale" to outsiders. He had a friend who was an electrician in the area, and he knew all the old farmers and their stashes. He was able to get my Dad in with them, and get him stuff CHEAP![/quote]

that is the secret! people coming in wanting to buy cheap old rusty cars are a pain in the ass! now if a friend asked he'd probably give them away. I had 27 cars once and most people knocking on my door early in the morning weren't welcome. if someone I knew came around with a friend, they would get the grand tour. and probably take one or two home. if they had the cash in the pocket (and not a ATM or a check) and were willing to pay what I thought they were worth, I don't mind dickering but don't give me the rusty scrap B.S
I only have a few left and have plans for most, I don't care how rusty they get. I bought 'em and I got 'em! you want 'em go find your own dammit............Jim

Hopefully, next time the price of steel skyrockets, this won't be the thread titled "Secret Private Vacant Field".

That is actually a Gisholt turret late (# 5 maybe?) but not sure of the model.
I ran one of those old Gismos back in the 60's. I think that I operated a doo-hicky mill also. :D

No need to apologize... at least not to me. I love stomping around Old "desert dogs". It's a great source of research and inspiration for artwork. Wish I had access to the yard.

  22. Heck I was thinking that when the ground's hard enough it would take about 5 minutes to roll up in a tilt bed and grab that '38 coupe, it's not that far from the road either, it's a wonder it's still there too.

"Hey there young fella...take a look at all my cool sh1t I have. And none of its for sale!"

  24. Not likely to happen in Nebraska, too far and costly to haul away to a steel mill. That's what's saved a lot of these cars from the scrappers during WW2 and the Viet Nam era.Major industrial cities yards were prime sources of steel Car thieves were scouring my neighborhood in the late 60's and hauling them to the crushers. Fact is we always cast a wary eye at anyone driving by slowly with a tow dolly.

I think I'm going to do something in the next few days to make sure that don't happen. There are people living within a few hundred feet of this place. I think a guy would have to have some big one to pull that off.

I guess I am different. I think the guy has every right to hoard up what ever he wants. I don't understand why some think it is alright to hassle an owner trying to 'beat' them out of their stuff. Nobody lives forever. Eventually that stuff comes up. You just have to be in the right place at the right time with the coin to get the deal done.

Like one of the posters said, be friends with these people. Steady hassling these guys just pisses them off and your likely to never get any of it. Who would you tell your spouse/kids to sell to, a pest or one of your friends.

This stuff is out there. The finding it is half the fun. Like these guys http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/178113/ not old hamb stuff but the same stuff is out there, you just have to find it.
