    Thanks for the link.

    That was Lions, right?
    .
I had lunch with my Dad today, and I asked him about Lions drag strip and how it got started. He said that there was a plan to let the street racers use the L.A. river bed as a drag strip before Lions was built. The county wouldn't let them use the river bed because someone might lose control and crash into a bridge support and damage the bridge.

How about that, the county was worried about a car damaging a 6 foot wide by 30 foot long piece of reinforced concrete. Go figure.

A little hokey but a LOT of fun.

  21. Wowway cable has a channel 101 in the Detroit area that plays all the shows that you guys have named. Adam-12 is on at 6:00pm and Dragnet is on at 6:30pm. I have been waiting for this one to play, now that you posted it, I will have to see if hulu has a couple of more tv shows I have been looking for.

I'm laughing that you mentioned L.A. River on a Adam-12 post. I used to do glass work on those TV cars and Adam 12 were a kick in the ass to drive. the special tires they used. a dog 2 barrel 318 could peel rubber as long as you held the pedal down and 4 wheel crossed up drifts at 20-30 mph.
ruined me for any chase movies those practice slides are what they use to set the cameras. so everytime I see a car running in a movie I know where and which way their gonna make a turn.
I've raced in the L.A. River and that running water (every few years there is water) has made the concrete so smooth that my 59 Triumph Bonneville could peel 50 of rubber all the way thru first and part of second gears. The good part is a stock flat motored car could light em up too! hard to blow up a trans or rear end

Ever notice in the opening the dispatcher says "one Adam 12 a 211 in progress, handle code 3" Problem is that she never gives the location!
Great show, watched it all the time in the 70's.
Dig the injected Vette @ about the 16 minute point.

Wasn't the Two Lane blacktop 55 also featured in an episode of
    Adam 12 ???

My dad grew up in Maywood and tells stories about racing and horsing around in the L.A river bed. Every time I watch the movie Repo Man, the sceen they do in the river bed reminds me of his stories.

Too funny! Wallabys, then Waffle Stompers, then Earth Shoes. I like the overhead Tach in the Camaro and the rough rear fender flare job on the Olds Cutlass? 442?
